Hey everybody I’m sorry for leaving you without an answer on my issue. I’m hoping that maybe what I’m about to write will help someone else down the road..
After changing spark plugs, spark plug wires, and moving the coils around I had the car towed to a shop. The owner ran some tests and cylinder 4 was having the issue. For those who don’t know cylinder 4 is home to 1 of the 4 junk DOD lifters our cars have. He was telling me that he can change out the lifters but that if I have him install the same kind of lifter the issue may very well happen again down the road so I opted to get rid of the DOD lifters which also meant getting rid of the DOD cam. He told me of a common issue with cracked pistons and the possibility of mine having an issue but not knowing without taking a look at them (because of the precious owner’s terrible driving habits and over revving as well as bending the pushrods) so I also opted to have the weak factory pistons replaced. I figured if I’m doing a piston, cam and lifter upgrade let’s go ahead and throw ported heads, intake, throttle body, headers, X-pipe and a tune to go along with the intake and exhaust I already have on the car lol. I’ll let you guys know what the issue ended up being in about 2 months when the shop gets around to working on my car!
Hi everybody how’s it going just wanted to let you guys know that I haven’t forgotten about the thread. I had a 2 month wait time at a local and reputable shop for the motor to be torn down. Once I find out what failed on the motor (most likely one of the DOD lifters) I’ll let you guys know (hopefully with pictures). With DOD lifters and the DOD cam being junk and being replaced I figured I may as well put a big cam in there and then I said I may as well do pistons, ported heads, ported intake, ported throttle body, headers, x pipe, and E85 to go along with the exhaust, catch can and intake the car already had to begin with.
Ok guys I said I wouldn’t abandon the post so I’m back with updates. The motor was taken apart and the DOD lifters seemed fine. The shop also checked the fuel injectors thinking they may be clogged but no such luck. So as much as it kills me to say this we don’t know exactly what the issue was... the shop believes it was in fact a DOD lifter that simply looked fine on the outside. I’m sorry I don’t have a more concrete answer for you all. Luckily, I opted to build the motor so now I have a built all motor C7 that makes 544whp 494wtq on 93. Will go back in about two weeks to see what it puts down on E85.

Wow! quite a journey and project. Sounds like you ended up with a much better engine!!! Good luck getting it all wrapped up... Enjoy the new ride...
