You don't have to order AC Delco from Rock Auto. Choose the vendor you like.
I am aware of this. I'm also aware the shops either won't touch the job or won't offer any warranty for the work. Every time I did that, they write "Installed customer supplied parts. No warranty" on my invoice.

That's been my experience too. I've got a great relationship with my local import shop owner and while they are agreeable to my bringing in my own parts, their 2 yr / 24k warranty isn't offered. If I use them to do the work then I accept that parts will cost more. And that's one reason I have a great relationship with them (for example, I'll stop in with a dozen donuts and pick their brains about a repair to decide if I want to do it myself).
Anyway, my point is that the shop will sometimes order from wholesale suppliers who also offer a warranty on the time to RnR the part if it fails. That's built into the higher price of the part they are getting, vs. the "rockauto/amazon/ebay" price that we, as retailers, pay.

We have to accept that the parts cost more. After all, if you have a problem, they have to go to bat for you and if the vendor doesn't pay up, they eat it. More risk, more money. I would and do the same. There are many who would expect the shop to stand behind the whole repair job when they bring their own parts but if the tables are turned, they don't like it.
Sure. I make sure to do it now and then so that they don't get the feeling that "You only bring stuff when you need something.".
Definitely. But if I goes through you, I don't care what happens but if I run into issues, you deal with your vendor.
Wouldn't be me in WI. I'd find the fair value and subtract what it costs to replace everything AC related. I ride with AC everyday so that is a non-starter for me.
