Default 3LT/LZ Dash Replacement

Has anyone else done the dash replacement? I was able to find a new issue dash and have begun the dash removal. I can not seem to find any good information on the dash removal. I have removed all the stuff that I have knowledge about. Now getting to where it is time to go after the dash itself. Wondering if anyone has experience with this and if there are any tips that can be shared? Absolute horrible design by GM. They know they put out a POS product. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Wow, one brave dude to tackle this.
I wonder if 'All Data' will provide all the information needed?

I'm in the middle of it right now unfortunately you have a ways yet to go. Sunvisors, rearview mirror, header trim, A pillar trim, speakers, glove box, air bag connectors and lower console also have to come off. Probably the auto shifter too, I took out the manual shifter so that I could pull the dash straight back to get it out. I removed the steering column which I'm not sure is required for dash removal but if no - at minimum those stalks will have to come off to clear the dash. I also took the seats out to see what's going on under there because my back doesn't bend as good as it used to. That dash sure packs every cubic inch of space with something the packaging is really amazing.

And yes AllData has the GM procedure but the line drawings aren't great.

Best of luck!

I didn’t do the labor on my replacement, but here are some pictures with the entire dash removed if they are of any value to you.

These pictures make me realize that I made the correct decision when I had the dealer install mine. I'm a bit of a DIY'er but replacing the dash goes way above and beyond. I sincerely wish the OP good luck and hope that everything goes together smoothly. 👍🏻🤜🏻💥🤛🏻

I'm pretty sure I saw a video a while back on Youtube of the entire dash replacement.

I am doing it right now. Suggest compartmentalizing your searches for info. IE turn signal replace, glove box removal (don't do like me and spend hours trying to remove pins and pully cable - its just a few bolts on the top and bottom and whole thing is removed.

Here is some links and info I found. On the steering wheel column there is a silver ring the holds the assembly on the shafted area, I disengaged all the plugs, loosened

the ring and the entire unit pulls straight out (turn signals and wiper control) all together.

You will need to remove the pillars to get to the two front bolts by the speakers. Three bolts hold the sun visor in, and remove the clup for same, pull down free acess to the pillar, pull out to unhinge the fasteners then simply pull up and out, remove connectors.

Here is a pic of the dash removal see the bolts to remove? If you accidently close the glove box you can still get it open by inserting on the passenger end side thru a hole to push the lever to open. The trim pad can be removed as shown below, again its like 5 bolts holding it in.

I'll have info on the 2 remaining bitch bolts under dash on passenger side later. All I know so far is removing the 4 connectors and removing its attached box.

Guys thanks for all the hints. Used them all. Old dash is out and the new one is back in and 90% reassembled. Not a horrible job just time consuming. Not to mention all the little cuts on your hands from the sharp edges. I can not believe that GM would put out such a shotty product on what is supposed to be the top trim package. Looking at the old dash compared to the new one you can see a huge difference. Now that I have been through it, if anyone has any questions I will be more than happy to answer or offer guidance.

two questions. On install did you have the 4 plug unit on the passenger side above the glove box be already installed prior to laying the dash in place?
2. Can the passenger trim piece with the 2 vents and passenger temp control be installed prior to setting the dash back in place? Thanks!!

I used pieces of folded cardboard and just slid them in the clips and I was able to slide the airbag right out.

The passenger dash pad is installed on the dash prior to installing dash. The four plug box is installed after the dash is in place. Hence it comes out before the dash is pulled. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Good deal, I want the dash pad to look solid in there. I have an old NAVTOOL car play removing today and tomorrow start install. The NAVTOOL I believe is tasking my battery when the car is off, never use it anyway so cleaning it out. I think the rest of the install is pretty straight forward. Going to enjoy tomorrow putting her back together. Thanks for the help.
