Default Antitheft deterrant/starting problems

I have researched my problem but just cannot seem to determine what is going on with my car. 2014 Z51 with 41000 miles. Battery replaced 6 months ago, no starting problems since replacement. Always on a battery maintainer until November. I left the car in Florida from November to the end of December. When I returned, I had an issue starting it but the battery seemed strong. It appeared to me to be the key fobs so I replaced the batteries in them and was not experiencing any problems afterwrads. Today, I went to start the car. It made the clicking noise that a low battery would but I had just recently run the car for about 100 miles at freeway speeds. Everything on the dash was working fine. It was showing "service antitheft deterrant" on the dash which I dismissed. It then told me to roll down the windows, driver and passenger, which I did. I tried the key fobs in the column and have tried locking the car, which it seems to to do but the side markers wont turn off. The lock sysmbol on the dash stays on.

Any advice for me? Thanks

It seems I cannot get the dash lights to go out. I am going to try disconnecting the battery overnight and see what happens.

Control, Alt, Delete.

Hard reboot.

Remember, were just driving a big computer.

ie: pull the (-) battery cable, push on the brake peddle, reconnect battery, try again.

Thank you for the reply. I checked the battery with a multimeter this morning and it was showing slightly over 12 volts. I pressed on the brake, reconnected the battery and tried starting it again. The first attempt produced the same result but I waited a few minutes and prepared to jump start it. Before I did, I tried again and it started. It seemed everything was back to normal but I ran it through the performance and info checks anyway. The only things that were off were the tire pressures (blank) and the voltage was showing just at 13. I drove it on the highway for a while, the tire pressures came back and the voltage was showing over 13 closer to 14 or better. I will keep a watch on it and see what develops. I was probably more concerned as I just brought it to Florida and it is parked outside my condo. The recent information on stealing cars with key fobs has been on lately.

Thaks again for the information!!

Remember that the voltage displayed with the engine running is the CHARGING voltage. It will vary from almost 15 volts while charging the battery down to about 13 volts with a fully charged battery. TPMS may take a few miles to display tire pressures.

How old is your battery?

It was replaced about 9 months ago. I don't have any of my tools from home so no battery charger. I will run it again later today and see how it goes.

Have you tried pulling off the battery cables and buffing the contact points with a scotch brite?

I did clean them up. The negative cable had some corrosion on it. I went to Harbor Freight and bought an old style battery terminal cleaner and a cheap multimeter. I put it back together and it started up. No more theft deterrent message and I drove it for a while to charge it up. It always stayed at around 14 or so on the dash gauge but the battery seemed to be stronger.

In the last 30 years, I have had 2 batteries that died OUT OF THE BOX, so to speak. Bought, installed and didn't work. Took back, tested bad. IDK why. When I buy a battery, I take it and have it load tested first. I'm not wasting my time with this crap again. Bought a new car in 91. 3 months later, started the car, went to the bank to make a deposit. Tried to start the car again and it wouldn't work. GM replaced that battery and tested the alternator. It was fine. I believe that 6 months later, same thing. Alternator tested good and the SA didn't believe it. That replacement lasted 4 or 5 years.

My suggestion is you forget how old it is and have the battery load tested. It can have 12 volts all day long but it might fail the load test. That or it passes the load test after charging but tests at say 60% after a few hours of sitting.

It seems like a few people on here have had new batteries fail. I will take your advice and get it load tested.

I drove the car a day ago and it seemed fine. When checking on it today, it started but showed service low battery. I took it to Advance Auto and had it load tested and asked them to check the charging system as well. I was told the battery is fine holding over 700 cca and the charging system was producing 14 amps. The service low battery indication is off. I am watching to make sure that I am not dealing with some parasitic draw problem. If it keeps up, I'll find someone in the Fort Myers area to look at it for me.
