Thanks for the question. The main difference between the two is that the SE8223-80 was ported more aggressively and flowed a bit more than the SE8223-40.

It ended up being a SE8223-40 which I now hope will be perfect, for my 2017 M7 GrandSport with GM CAI and AWE X-pipe

You’re all good. The -80 version was intended for the C7 Z06 anyway, so the SE8223-40 you picked up is the correct and perfect choice for your 2017 M7 Grand Sport with the GM CAI and AWE X-pipe. It’ll work great on your setup.
