Default How does the C7 parking brake work?

Hi everyone!

I am in the middle of swapping C7 Z06 brakes (non-CCB) onto my C5 Z06. I know the parking brake doesn't work like previous generations.

My question is: how can I make the electronic parking brake work after the brake swap? Is it as simple as wiring in a switch that I flip? Does it require one of the C7 control modules? Am I stuck just parking it in gear forever?

If you're just doing calipers, you'll continue to use your OEM parking brake. The C7 parking brake is similar....a drum brake inside the rear rotor....GM just decided to add a little electric motor to apply and release the parking brake vs a hand pull. You should be able to adapt your existing parking brake cables, even if you're also swapping the spindles and hubs.

Yea, I'd try to attach the standard cable from the C5 to the "drum hat" brake on the C7 (since the C5 one likely is a different size you'll need to reuse the shoes and spring from the C7). The "drum hat" brake doesn't care how the cable is pulled, just that it is.

I didn't realize the drum hat existed on the C7 GS/Z06 brakes. Guess I need to pull the 2-piece rotors out of the box and actually look at them. LOL
This is a much simpler solution than I expected. I was even looking at the FDF dual caliper setup. LOL

Yea its not a more "traditional" electronic park brake that has a motor on the caliper that screws down to engage the brake. In the old days those were pulled by a cable and a spring, but replaced now by a motor. (See Focus versus say a Bronco). The C7 still uses cables, just they are pulled by a module not the handle. It's like 50% electronic versus the other systems which are 100% electronic.
