See post 14. OP is either delusional or has a broken camera which would be under warranty.

There is a difference between the 2014 and 2016 camera.
2014 camera lense is flat
2016 camera lense has a dome .

That's a very insightful answer. I'll make sure I don't any ask unimportant questions around here, knowing that you're around.

that will definitely help. I have seen many cars with flawed backup camera images that are simply defective.

There was another 2016 with the same kind of image.
The guy at the dealership understood the the image was poor.
He suggests calling GM to talk to them.
The difference between '14 and '16 cameras is dramatic.

just saying, mine looks exactly the same as my 14 did.

what is the build date on your car? pretty new like the ones at the store still? I think mine is 11/2015.

Here is a picture.
Look at the corners closely.
Is this how your backup images look?

it looks like yours is pointed down. I can just barely see my license plate in mine where in yours you can see the whole thing. if it's pointed down I could also see it not letting in quite as much light and it is trying to overcompensate with more voltage to the sensor (ISO) and making the image look noisy especially against that pebble driveway.

Sounds like you just answered your own question. Maybe the 2016 is wide-angled/fisheye and thus those black corners are actually the car itself? Test it by having someone put their finger or something in that area and seeing if it registers or just remains black.

Why would it just be the four corners?
The top would be blocked out all across.

Back to my original question...
Is this what everyone's backup cameras look like?

That's the characteristic of a fisheye lens. The lens is jutting slightly outward so the top center will not be obscured.

In the absence of anyone else posting a pic of their backup camera image, just try what I stated above. Or tape a piece of white paper next to the camera. You'll probably like what you see.

As to why they changed to a fisheye? If you're parked in between two large vehicles and can't see cross traffic until half your car is backed out, a fisheye is much more helpful to see cross traffic.

Mine looks just like yours except body color on top corners is different, since my car is white. I have had 15 Z51 and 15 Z06 and both looked great compared to the 16 Z06. I understand your frustration. I think it must have been a change during the model year run.

Thanks!
My next question is this...
Does anyone know if a 2014 C7 camera will fit?

I have a 2015, and the camera view is just like dckotwicki's. It's a great perspective from my position.

What a difference.
$20K v $100K vehicle.
The $20K vehicle wins hands down.
This is my complaint.
My 2014 Stingray camera was much like the Ford Focus camera.
Why would the quality folks at GM allow such a change?

Do you think the backup camera is the driving factor in the price of a Focus and a Corvette?

Are you going to sell or trade in your Corvette because of the backup camera?

Do you drive down the road in reverse or just for a matter of seconds when leaving a parking spot?

Do you derive less Corvette oriented enjoyment when driving forward because of the memory of being in reverse?

Are you going to crash into anything in reverse because of the wide angle/lower resolution camera that you would have otherwise avoided in your Focus?

No, I will not sell the car.
No, I will not drive down the road backwards.
Yes, this stupid image irritates me every time I put the vehicle in reverse.
Why does it irritate me? Because it's not necessary to make things worse!
Are your questions even relevant or necessary? No.
This is a quality / customer satisfaction issue.
I have a supplier background. This stupid camera NEVER should have made it to production!
It produces a worse image than the previous model.
That should not happen.
The quality of vehicles should improve over time, not decline.
Look at the image my Ford Focus produces, then look at the image the Z06 produces... I rest my case.
