Why does it irritate me? Because it's not necessary to make things worse!
Are your questions even relevant or necessary? No.
This is a quality / customer satisfaction issue.
I have a supplier background. This stupid camera NEVER should have made it to production!
It produces a worse image than the previous model.
That should not happen.
The quality of vehicles should improve over time, not decline.
Look at the image my Ford Focus produces, then look at the image the Z06 produces... I rest my case.
But that is only your opinion. I am sure there are others who share your opinion, of course.

There is a reason GM decided to move to a wide angle lens but the actual image quality is NOT worse than 2014, it is just a different field of view. No different than why Europe requires more space between hoods and engines, etc. You don't know the motivation, you just know "you don't like it." Many will appreciate and benefit from a wider view. Personally, I could not care less if the backup camera is wide or long, it's there as an assistance for moving out of a parking spot or driveway, this is NOT why you have a Corvette Z06, is it?

Sorry I don't share your opinion on this matter, that's ok if I don't. I just wouldn't put so much weight on my own opinion on the Corvette being less of a car than a Focus or GM being cheaper than Ford because you like the backup camera better. I doubt they spent any less on the lens because it's wider.

There is no call to action or petition. You are making a mountain out of a molehill. If you aren't going to do something about it, then just move on with your life. It's too short to concern yourself with such trivia.

Don't worry about it on this holiday weekend and take it to the dealer for an inspection as others suggested.

My 2014 i had and my 2016 Z shared the same quality camera output, yours is pointed a but farther down in my opinion and may need another adjustment. Nobody but the dealer will really be able to tell. Go use the warranty we paid for.

Comparing to the Focus is a moot point, they use different systems and suppliers. Chevy's camera in both of my C7's were lesser quality than that in my BMW, but it works. At least it's not like the one I had in my Jeep Cherokee that looked like it would slow to run at about 10 frames per second often and had a ton on tearing on the 8" screen.

The fact is that the infotainment system in the Corvette is a cheaper system compared to other cars on the market, and always has been. The car is not an Audi sedan where you need the infotainment system to entertain you and make you feel good about being in the car, so I think that Chevy saved some money where they could to deliver a car that performs better than many that cost 2+ times as much.

Get out, drive the car and enjoy what it is made to do.... put smiles on faces and make sphincters pucker.

Thanks, I understand and appreciate your comments.
My problem is that I came from a 2014 stingray that had a backup camera. And, the image was dramatically better than the Z06. It was clear, the color was good and the entire screen was utilized. It did not look like you were looking through a 50 gallon drum that removed all 4 corners of the image.

I have priced the 2014 camera at $170. I am guessing that the 2016 camera is similarly priced. This is the 3rd vehicle we have owned with back camera's (I have been in others as well). Even my wife (who is not a car expert) looks at this image and thinks it is terrible.

If the 2014 camera can be plugged in without any modification to the vehicle i will likely have my dealer do it (at my expense). Camera systems on vehicles are significant convenience items. As such, they should present a pleasant / friendly appearance to the consumer. There are reasonable standards out there, and GM should be aware of them. I would be surprised to find any other backup systems that present images like this on other brands. On a car like this there should never be a "That'l do" attitude about anything.

When people chime in suggesting I should sell the car or don't drive backwards, or buyers remorse, or its just my opinion. I think WTF? As far as "My opinion" goes, he is correct, it is my opinion based on previous experience with systems on other vehicles, one of which is a 2014 Stingray, which worked perfectly.

So you're more interested in how your backup camera image looks than the added safety it provides?

You should've kept your '14 Stingray since you're clearly not using any of the added performance the Z06 provides. A Nissan Versa has a better backup camera too

The video camera (Front and Back) picture quality is also poor on my 2016. I'm going to double check and make sure the dealer took off the protective plastic. Love the front parking cameras but compared to my other cars the video quality is really lacking.

I share the OPs opinion that the backup camera is worse than its predecessor. What I can't believe is how many on this forum take his frustration as an opportunity to give him static just because he doesn't praise every change made to Corvettes. Now that I've given my opinion I will now be part of the target. Yep, here it comes

I am not trying to be argumentative, I have showed this back up system to other Corvette owners, some GM people, and when the side by side comparison is made (their 2014 to my 2016) the response is unanimous. the new image / camera stinks. They walk away saying WOW!
I had to take my Ford into the dealer today and was given a 2016 Fusion to drive. It had a back up system. It worked as I would expect. It did not make me wonder what the heck is this.

As for the camera, I assume it comes from a supplier that provides cameras to many OEM's. Someone at GM made the decision to go with this look. As a consumer, I can't imagine why.

I am now paying more attention to different vehicles backup systems, I have not yet seen any with an image like this.

Some have suggested that the camera is pointed down too much. I can't see an adjustment. In any case, I will have it into the dealer for further discussion and i will voice my displeasure directly with GM.
