Default Splash Guards???

Noticed that the ZO6 doesn't have the GM splash guards installed even tho there is a rubber piece going around the entire wheel well, except for the last 12 inches to the rear. With the side rail skirts installed, does the fenders have fairly good protection or is most owners purchasing and installed the Splash Guards? Just wondered, as I had put them on my '14 Stingray, but it didn't have the skirts.

I just ordered a set painted to match the car. I had them on the stingray and they helped.

Best protection on Z06 are the ACS fronts and GM rears with side skirts and Xpel (behind all 4 wheels at the minimum), you can purchase all 4 guards from ACS.

I agree with VooDooRob. ACS front and GM rear.

I have had great luck with the Apsis guards---yes, too expensive, but with some 30,000 miles on 3 cars that had them (1 with side skirts, 2 without), I am very happy with the protection they offered.

Since I put them on the 2015 Z06, I read many posts here about an O'Reilly guard that is very inexpensive, and Forum members are very happy with them.

Many, many posts on this topic-------one very knowledgeable member even posted some pictures showing how some guards are just not as wide as the front tires (meaning the road debris has an excellent chance of still hitting the car).

I also have the Xpel on this car, but that doesn't stop the road debris from hitting the car, it just helps mitigate the damage done when the car is struck.

From what I have read, and I have read hundreds of the posts on this topic, it seems members with the best success have the combination of BOTH a guard wider than the front tires and side skirts. After that, it seems to be a toss up between (a) those with the side skirts and a guard that may not be wider than the front tire, (but not the OEM guard or the GM guard the dealer will sell you) and (b) folks like me that don't have side skirts, but do have a guard at least as wide as the front tires.

Congratulations on your new car.

Also consider wrapping the entire rear quarter panels. Rocks her spit up the sides from the front wheels.

Any links? Links for oreilly version?

Sorry Vyper340---no links. I am lucky just to be able to do email and post on this Forum. No computer skills at all.

I hate to refer you to a 'search' (I hate it when folks tell someone to go do a search versus providing a helpful answer)--------I know more than one thread on this had explicit instructions with a pattern all laid out on how to best cut the O'reilly guards for the best fit. Hopefully, someone that can recall one of these posts will chime in----same with the guy that posted the pictures of a reputable guard being too narrow ( I said he is very knowledgeable because when you see his name you will remember seeing many excellent, and helpful post from him).

It's these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/371032574409...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Oreilly doesn't make them. PowerFlow part number 4322. http://www.powerflowinc.com/splash_premier_c.php

There is a template that another member provided that use the three factory bolts.

Fit pretty good; I'm happy with them.

I ordered the GM rear guards, but haven't gotten them on the car yet.

Massive amount of information on the topic here if you search "splash guards" and "skirts".

Very True--use search function. Here are a couple of relevant links though:

Me too- Got RPI's body colored side skirts to compliment the body colored vents on my car. Excellent value and I think they look great. (I am going for the stealth look). Also did the larger inexpensive auto store front mud flaps (GM's at the rear). Between the two they have definitely minimized stone chips so far (3,500miles).--Bob

The only ones that work are the ones you make yourself. The GM Accessory and the ACS Guards aren't wide enough or low enough so things fly right by them and the side skirts to hit the rear quarter and brake duct.

There is a thread on the forum where somebody described how to make your own. That way you can add a couple inches below the other ones so they block the line from the wheel to the rear quarter.

Anybody that says anything else works isn't driving their car where stuff gets thrown by the tires.

Bill

My part number in my previous post was wrong, but the ebay link was correct. I edited it to be correct.

Best? Disagree. The ACS fronts don't cover the ENTIRE width of the front tire. Forum search for pics and examples.

Ditto. I received those about 4 days ago:
Amazon Amazon

The guy who originally installed them STILL didn't think the coverage was good enough, so he ordered a different set. I also ordered this other set and it just arrived about an hour ago: https://www.realtruck.com/cre-splash-guard-mud-flaps/

Both of these were discussed (including pictures & info from user gve) in the link provided by ZR1Bob above (https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...that-work.html)

I plan on messing with both sets to see which ones will work for me.

I also ordered a set of C7 Carbon Carbon Fiber Z06 side skirts: http://www.c7carbon.com/c7-corvette-...on-fiber-p-596 They are on there way to me now, scheduled to arrive early next week.

I certainly appreciate all the useful information you guys have provided in this post. I will pursue looking into the links provided and I like the make your own ideas also. I am having a clear vinyl installed behind the wheels next Tuesday when they do my tint, but was looking for some extra protection also. Thanks to all that responded.

Honestly, I would consider the xPel to be the "extra protection" and the splash guards and side skirts to be the primary protection for those areas.

The 3/4 skirts, while a little shorter are a little wider. I have been doing research and they seem to protect basically as good as the longer ones (these threads pop up in C7 General and people with mileage on their GS or Z06 reporting good things with the 3/4 skirts). With the ACS front splash guards, GM OEM rears, and some XPEL protection... you gave your car the best chance it has to avoid chips.
