Default Red Puddle...

Pull the AW 16 Zo6 out for a "spin" and notice the A8 has left a little red puddle there on the floor, much like a bad dog. Car has all of 1200 miles on it. Simple blown gasket? Anyone else have there A8 drop a puddle? Thanks

Red is transmission fluid. Orange-pink is coolant. You can differentiate easily by smell. Transmission fluid is far more toxic smelling.

Yes thank you for the kind reply. I was wondering if any other A8 owners have suffered the same fate and what the best guess am I up against? Typically is it a blown gasket, or something come loose in the first 1200 miles? I know I gots to take it in to the stealer under warranty. Should it be towed in at this point? thanks

Sorry I didn’t type more initially. If you can narrow down where the leak is from and what the fluid is, you can decide if the car is drivable. For example coolant leaking would be easy to check the coolant level and see how much is left. If it’s a small leak, top it up and drive to the dealer. A transmission leak would be more of a no-drive situation given the lower volume of fluid in the transmission. If the puddle is small you’re fine to drive. If it’s a little pond on the floor, I would have it towed. If you’re a wrench turner, I always like to diagnose the problem first and have found that most times I do a better job than the dealer. Finding the source of the leak isn’t too tough usually. Both the coolant and transmission lines have many hoses and connection points. I wouldn’t assume anything catastrophic. It’s far more likely a hose is compromised or a connection is weeping.

the A8 tranny holds 11 qts of fluid, I would drive it rather then risk damage towing it

You can’t easily check the fluid level. If I shifts funny I would tow. It maybe a good idea to call the dealer and ask if they recommend towing. I would think this covers you a little better.
