I like the way the bolts are stacked up on the lift arm. No way they could be accidently kicked and scattered across the shop floor.... I would still talk to management, but I'd also not want to possibly **** off the technician.
I would not consider this to be a professional job. All removed parts should not be stacked on your windshield. The fenders should be covered in plastic with padded covers. This looks like a high school project to me! Just my $.02.
I taught high school auto shop for twenty years and I would never tolerate this type of disorganization by my students. The windshield and a tire and wheel from the car under repair are not acceptable storage locations ever in a shop environment. I am not insulted by the "high school project" comment, but a good training curriculum includes all aspects of shop organization and management.
The photo indicates a lack of respect for the customer and the equipment under repair and creates a question about all elements of the overall quality potential of work done in this shop. They sure as hell did not learn these methods in my shop.
Thanks to everyone who responded. I went by talked to the service manager and just let him know what my expectations were. He assured me everything would be done correctly and he would ensure there is no damage. He also plans to speak to the tech and let him know to be more mindful of where and how he is placing items.
I also spoke to GM today to get it documented just incase anything comes out of it.

I know you already spoke with them but for me I wouldn't like it. I've been to 3 shops to work on my car, and the shop I had the most issues with was the one who stacked parts in the trunk and had parts lying around all over the place. My current shop will have a cart or shelf where they place all their parts and overall keeps the place nice and tidy. It's not about being a Karen, but wanting the service and professionalism you would expect when a near $100k car is being worked on. The fact you had doubts and were upset when you first looked at it is enough of a reason to say something. As Cordes Performance said it's a reflection of their work.
At least they know where all the parts are. I know I wouldn't be happy with them if I walked in and saw all the parts all over the car. But I'd probably not want to check in on them on how progress is going.
personally I cant remember were everything goes on a large job so bag and tag is a much]st for me. I never place objects on the windshield since they can scratch or get knocked over and across the fender. im sorta add so I have to keep my area neat and organized ( unlike my life!! )
Not acceptable. I think they could have used a work bench to organize the parts rather than your glass windshield or setting parts on the wheels. I wouldn't be happy. I would be concerned that they are as careless about doing the engine install. These are not the results of an organized mechanic.
the manager assures no damage? but the fact that stuff is like that causes the ability to have damage. why even risk a possibility of damage in the first place. then u have to deal with that.... place the stuff somewhere else. the trunk on a nice thick blanket would be fine.
might as well keep going" heres a great spot for the radiator: the roof.
oh well best of luck is all we can say since its going to be like that till done...
if they placed a blanket on the windshield and then placed some of the lighter parts i wouldnt mind as much but as other stated weight on the wipers etc..

Please tell me where this is located so if I have any issues this fall on road trips I can avoid this shop like the plague. I wish you all the luck with the repairs!
Flashpoint
OP, I don’t think you over reacted. I would not like they way they treated your car. Sloppiness like that would make me question the quality of the work.

I too would not be happy with how things were being stored. However, your picture shows some other things as well. It looks like the shop doesn't have a lot of room and this mechanic's work area doesn't have a lot of space. Where will he put stuff if he doesn't put it on the windshield, fenders, and tires?
When you say Service Manager exactly who are you talking about? The guy who takes down your information when you first enter the shop or the guy who everybody in the shop works for? If it is the first guy he is just another flunky. The second guy is the one that can hire and fire people.
As for the SC sitting on your wheel. The picture does show it is sitting on the plastic radiator shroud which is sitting on the wheel.
