C8 Nurburgring laptime

Burning Brakes
Autosport did a 7:13 run driving a C7 Z06, great run but saw a few areas that could have been improved on a bit. I saw news that a 7:10 run was made, trying to find the source. No doubt one of the Corvette Team drivers could deliver a 7:10 or maybe a bit faster. Remember the C7 is a front mid engine architecture while the C8 is a rear mid engine architecture. No actual times were officially recorded for the C7 Z51 Stingray there but Fastlaps.com, which keeps close tabs on these things estimates a 7:47 time. Based on what data we have, and assuming my speculations and guesses are as good as anyone else's, I would guess the Z51 version of the base C8 car will run about a 7:25. Big improvement compared to C7 base equivalent. I am guessing the C8 base LT2 small block will be around 490 h/p (roughly same delta as between the LS3 and LT1), and the weight will be around 3250 lbs. The '19 Corvette Brochure lists base car at 3298. Some small weight savings maybe, but partially offset by DCT transmission.
Since everyone else is speculating and guessing, figured it was time for me to do the same....

I wasn't aware that Jim Mero had wrecked a C6 Z06 at the Ring(or anywhere). Do you have a photo, a news article, etc that you can link to? He must have pushed the 2012 C6 Z06 pretty hard to just be 3 seconds slower than the 2012 C6 ZR1 that had 133 more horsepower and a better 5th gear for running down the long straight vs the C6 Z06. So, did he wreck that 2012 C6 Z06, or was it another C6 Z06?
There are plenty of photos of the C7 Z06 that he did in fact wreck at the Ring.

The C6 Z06's and C6 ZR1's that ran at the ring(and GM posted videos and times)......were those not top of the line "test cars" or just lowly base C6's "test cars" with either 400 HP or 436 HP with skinny tires and tiny brakes.
Were the Camaros they "Tested" and then posted times for, just lowly base cars with a V6?

Look at the sub 7min cars(GT2 RS, Aventador SVJ, Huracan Performonte, etc...). They all have the required downforce to allow a street sports car to run a sub 7min time or a time near 7min.
For a reality check, a 660hp Ferrari 488 GTB with similar looking aero treatment ran a 7:21.

Nürburgring Visit
Spent Monday afternoon at the Nurburgring. While I didn’t see any C8 test vehicles, I did have an interesting conversation with a Ring Taxi driver. While on a “Hot Lap” in a BMW M5 X-Drive with a very talented driver (holds the Porsche Cayman Cup Series lap record at the Ring), I asked him if he’d seen the C8 and, if so, what he thought about it. His reply “a very nice car”. Asked him if he’d heard any rumors on lap times. He said “I’ve clocked it myself”. And, did it do a sub-7 lap? Big smile, and “as a Ring test driver, I’ve taken an oth to not share information. ARGH!
Oh, and he also said Chevrolet has another prototype Vette that they are running around the Ring! With that, my lap was over and he was gone!!

The red Z06 on the armco is clearly at Hatzenbach, not sure what year. The 7:22 was a great time.

surely the ME is gonna be fantastic on the curves...though..Is there anyone else..interested in mostly straight line performance... red light, roll racing and 1/4 tracking the ME... ?? Actually didnt know that the interest in the ME was mostly road course....
I can't wait to get this thing to 800 at the wheels...and dig it against everything else..

They have their own track in Italy to develop their cars on.
Ahhhh, come on now!!
You're telling me you couldn't find the $$$ for a Vette with a Ring Time in the 6:30s and a QT in the 9s?

With GM unwilling to release a time, that's about all anyone can do.
True.
Maybe they should have started testing on the Z06 much earlier?
FWIW, Ferrari doesn't give out official times at the Ring.
They have their own track in Italy to develop their cars on.

Not really.
It's a Sportscar, not a muscle car.

Probably the fact it has no big aero that is required to run a sub 7min time.

Looking at its 661hp with a 3,241 kerb weight, I come up with 4.9 lbs. per horsepower.
The Z has a power-to-rate ratio of 5.34 lbs. per hp.

Sport Auto weighed the 448 GTB(listed in image below):
1553kg or 3424lbs
1638kg or 3589lbs (with 75kg driver)
Video of the lap:
