Dealers love when you use the gm buy power card ....and so does gm.

i plan on using mine on the c8 come spring when the c8 delivers.

its five percent for the first 5000 each year and 2 percent for the rest of your charges. (Edit to correct as per Fred). I just started using the car around july of this year again.

You should always pay off any credit card in full every month when the bill comes.

the interest rates are like factors.

It is 5% on the first $5,000 and then 2% thereafter with no limit and time restriction to use it.

I don’t think your saying you want to use a credit card to pay for your C8. A dealer would have to be desperate to take a credit card and pay the fees.

I used my previous points on a new C7 at Macmulkin and plan to use my new points on the C8 as well. Shouldn't be a problem.

So, do you pay the entire bill when the card comes due or make payments @10-24% interest?

Almost never carry a balance. We use a couple cards, to either earn GM points or airline points, but pay it off when the bill comes in.

Most dealers limit the amount you can put on the card to 5-10k due to the fees they pay...that’s my experience when we paid cash for my wife’s Acura RDX a month ago

I think there are two lines of thought going on in this thread. The OP asked about using accrued points from his/her Capital One GM Buy Power credit card to reduce the cost of his/her upcoming C8 purchase. Historically, you could use points to reduce the purchase price of a Corvette by up to $3,000, although the 2020 Corvette is not listed as an eligible vehicle at this time. Hopefully, it will become an eligible vehicle by the time the 2020 Corvettes begin getting delivered to customers. AFAIK, the OP wasn’t asking about paying for the C8 with a credit card.

Thanks for clearing that up Big Dave. As you said, there seems to always be some fine print on how much, when and which car. Hopefully, we will be able to use the rewards when the C8 is available next spring/summer.

Default GM card and points

On new cars Such as the C8 the credit card company has to be notified that the car qualifies for the redemption of points . I recall sone timing issues with the C7, I believe it was the z06 were points were not announced for that car and people picking up theirs new cars were quite upset. After a few months it got resolved.

They must have changed the rules for new cards...again. I've had my card since 2004 and mine is 5% unlimited BUT it has a rolling 7 year time limit, that drops starts dropping the earliest month off and adding the latest month if you have those 7 years without using any of the points. This year they bumped the C7 maximum up to $5000 from $3000. Nobody knows if they will accept any for C8 yet or limit it to a certain amount. I assume it may not be known until the beginning of the year?

Either way, if you buy or lease GM products it's a decent card especially if you pay it off every month. I've received close to $10K off cars for free (since I do pay it off monthly) on 4 different cars combined since 2004.

So what is the difference in the GM card points vs a generic 2% cash back card, do they reward more points vs cash back?

I bought my 2014 Stingray in October 2013. All points were applied without any problem.

They exist. I was going to pay cash for a new car on Dec 29th, 2011. Just as a joke, I asked if I could put it on my AmEx cash-back card. I knew that AmEx had programs with particular dealers but just a few Rolls, Bentley, etc. dealerships on the coasts. To my shock they agreed as long as I paid a small token in cash because AmEx wouldn't allow full purchase due to the price protection, return protection, extra year warranty, etc. So I got over a month of float and the cash-back rewards. LoL Only thing I can figure is they were that desperate some how and had to get that sale that month and that year.
