The only other picture I have or know of is from post 33 of the thread “ME Musings and Other Whispers”. If it’s true information, that post is very important.

From the valve cover design, it appears to be a LT1 OHV derivative and the transmission looks nothing like the ZF DCT that was shown in the earlier CAD drawings.

If it is a Tremec, sure hope that GM has spent the time to get the thing tuned so it's as responsive and smooth as the ZF that Porsche uses. First DCT transaxle by Tremec and first DCT application by GM...…...what could go wrong...….!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, all of the money that used to go into tuning two different transmissions, testing two different transmissions, beefing-up two different transmissions, and manufacturing two different transmissions will now go towards the development of one transmission(Keep in mind that the 8-Speed is designed and built by GM, not ZF or Tremec). Now throw in a ton of R&D money from Ford for the GT500’s DCT, which is likely a reconfigured version of the C8’s, and you plenty of funding for Tremec to get it right.

These CAD views show both ZF DCT Transaxle (Same DCT thats in the Porsche 918) and the Tremec DCT thats indicated by Zerv's comment above. The ZF unit is a proven unit that has been out for a while now. The Tremec unit hopefully is sorted out and reliable. The Tremec unit is not shown on their website at all. I contacted Tremec for information about this unit and they said they couldn't reveal any specifics on it. Obviously, not until the ZORA is revealed will we find out if the DCT is actually the Tremec unit. There is also a smaller ZF unit that looks very close to the Tremec unit thats shown above for the base LT2 car. ZF also makes a 7sp manual Transmission that is based on the 7sp DCT unit. Both units are shown in the link below.

ZF DCT Transaxle (7DT70HL(A)) shows max torque input rating at 515 ft-lbs. Current LT1, LT4, LT5 are respectively 460, 650, 730.

So probably good to go for "revised LT2" but for the "higher" engines?

Is the ME going to loose one of its quintenessential strengths? Torque?

Don't think so. We don't know what the C8 power/torque ratings will look like yet. The Tremec 7DCT is listed for FORD's GT500 with is already announced at 700+BHP. Your torque limits don't really apply as a DCT specific limitation since the Porsche PDK 7DCT is already supporting more then 515ft-lbs in the 700 BHP GT2RS.

Only limitation is the quality of the parts they put into the clutch assemblies. The gear box section & gear set is similar to any normal manual clutch operated MT gear set which are already covering the Corvette's torque.

Thanks!
I'll admit that your reference to the FORD GT500 has me more reassured than the GT2RS which currently peaks at 550 ft-lbs.
I read the 500's torque will come at 650 ft-lbs (https://www.roadandtrack.com/new-car...aked-document/) which is the current C7Z06 rating. I know that although good for hi-rev motors, DCTs have been technically limited to the 500ish ft-lbs mark for a while but if they are coupling it with the 650 GT500 I suspect it will be reinforced.

Weight/dimensions comparable to current C7 I would want the base ME to be fairly close to the 500 mark... torque is what moves the car after all...

Cheers

ZERV gave us so many questions but a few very concrete answers. I think that a lot of forum members forgot about the CAD images he leaked and the details which they show. But they aren’t important anymore, mostly because the C8 reveal is just around the corner. I hope that I remember this thread whenever the forum gets around to waiting on the C9.

For those of you wanting the pictures ZERV had posted on the forum, scroll up and you’ll see them all in one post.

I agree. While the "exotic" design of a TT v8 in back and electric motor up front the weight penalties make the car have to overcome dragging it's lard
@$$ around. The NSX racecar dumped the battery and motor and upped the power on the TT v6 and it's a different car.

sell these at around 80k (hmmm,,,, sounds like a c8 price range??) and NSX would be a mover. Right now, they aren't doing so well in sales which is putting it kindly

One of the most advanced cars in the price range is an epic fail. Hopefully GM learned something from it!!

Keep the heavy batteries OUT of the vette. Car is too piggy as it is with all the creature comfort and mandatory safety stuff.

my "build" is a TT vette at much less than 3300 lbs that hauls the mail with around 800 hp. That will be enough if it can be hooked up.

the brits seem to be doing fine with the mclaren's and traction. GM needs to invest a bit more in boost by speed technology for traction control solutions which is much easier to do with turbos.
