I'm not sure that what I saw scrolling thru the above link is what most people are thinking of when it comes to "storage space." And the 5 cubic feet up front won't carry anything, really...
The McLaren has a tall intake manifold, but let's see how much room there is in the back of a McLaren to haul stuff(and not block the view out the rear window).
There is a small recessed arear directly behind the seats(but in front of the engine) that can hold a small duffle bag. Then there is a flat shelf above the engine that can hold a box maybe 3-4 inches tall. then above the exhaust, there is nothing.
Now compare that to what a C6 coupe can carry in the back, without blocking the rear view.
PS_ just grabbed some images off the web of the McLaren, so I'm not sure what model it is.
I don't even have a windshield or windshield mounted rear view mirror on my Atom. If I did it would be useless because I'd just be starring at my intake box. In the place of storage I have an intake that far surpasses anything that you see on production cars. The air is cold, the intake is giant, and there is substantial ram air effect at high speeds.
I hope the fast C8 versions do away with rear storage all together and make use of that room for cooling, high flow heads, and ram air everything.

That’s a McLaren 570s. It doesn’t even have a glovebox. The Frunk is very spacious for a supercar though.

The leaks so far indicated that there is an NA OHV, Turbo 4.2 DOHC, and Turbo 5.5 DOHC. Are you saying there will also be a forth option, NA DOHC? I hope so, but this is the first I hear of it.
I heard there will be the LT5 as the "base" engine, and there also will be a DOHC (at 6.2L) which is supposedly NA.
Those other engines are for other programs, perhaps Cadillac.
A 6.2L N/A DOHC would surely pique my interest! Even at just 101hp/l like the 350R it would surely be a track animal.
Mercedes has a 6.2L DOHC (the M156) which makes 622 hp.
The 918 Spyder V8 though is probably one of the best. It has 600 hp from a 4.6L DOHC engine. That's 130.4 hp/L which in a 6.2L would be 808 hp.
Except there is one better, it is a flat plane crank though. The 458 Speciale is 132.7 hp/L or when dragged out to 6.2L, 822 hp.
That's the type of engine GM wants. I heard a rumor they were trying for a flat plane crank at 6.2L by adding balance shafts (which at smaller displacements flat plane engines do not need). If they can pull it off, they will have the exhaust note of a GT350, the power of a Demon, and the body of a Ford GT. Basically it will destroy all other cars.
Many corvette owners today would gladly have the rear mid engine corvette with luggage capacity of the mclaren..
I realize joe c5 you prefer the c6 luggage capacity but I wanted to thank you for literally showing how much luggage can fit in the rear mid engine layout.
I believe it's time for the corvette to finally evolve to the rear mid engine platform that many of us have been reading about and dreaming of for forty years...
Makes it easier to rationalize buying a new corvette by having such large changes ...
Sounds dreamy but the high output engines you listed, the 918 and Speciale were all built in very small numbers and will mostly end up being garage queens. Manufacturers are much less likely to build something that strung out if they are going to sell thousands.
I think it would have the engine noise of the 350r but also it's hp/l, ie. ~626hp. I'm fine with that of course.
I have confidence the ME will look terrific, and I am excited by lots of the ME ideas/dreams in the above posts. Yet the one that has me most excited, is our earlier discussion that CAD drawings showed the capability and the “equipment” for it to have a “front axle lift system.” Would gladly pay more for that option. I would prefer having that than say having the final/extra 25 HP. Give us all the elimination of stress when we come to new places and see a step driveway apron into the gas station or restaurant we wish to go to.
