With both of you on leather and not just for the wheel. White cat that sheds like crazy = bad time for any cloth/synthetic fiber media. I keep a lint roller in pretty much everything I own because it is that bad.

Stock wheel on my daily is an over molded rubber compound. IE early 2000s gm truck wheels. Feels just fine for a daily. Leather in the escalade gets a little sticky. My hands sweat a bit. I'm a sweaty person actually. Same thing happens in the vette. My next vehicle will have leather seats too. I'm over the cloth in my truck lol.

I went out and sat back to back in my truck and the tahoe. Fat wheel does indeed feel better sliding in the hand vs the smaller ribbed grip truck wheel from earlier on. I could see that being useful on a track. But for daily driving, I think I would prefer the thinner wheel still. Just a preference I guess but my wheel has a nice notch worn in it from where my fingers rest. Maybe that is why it is so comfortable

I agree.. I am not a huge fan of the c7 wheel, and I'm even less of a fan of the c8 interior spy shots IMO.. How hard is it to make a good looking steering wheel?

The wheel is arguably the 1 item in the car you would most look at and touch!! They should put more thought and effort into it! lol

The funny thing is your position is also based on no documented info or evidence and is also unfounded speculation. None of us know the answer to the cost question. I have my opinions that it will be less not more but they are just opinions and no one knows yet.

Just hilarious. How the steering wheel looks is a high priority? I sure hope the engineers at GM would not trade even one ounce of performance or good looks for an awesome looking steering wheel. I could not even describe to someone what the wheel looks like in my car as I pay absolutely zero attention to what it looks like as long as it provides the required functionality.

Maybe a better question might be? What one thing would you be willing to sacrifice in order to have the most incredible looking steering wheel in your new C8? It sounds funny just typing that.

The interior is the number one thing you look at on a car, it is where you spend your time. It has to look and function well. Why do we have to sacrifice something in order to have a nice steering wheel? Can't say that I am interested in a car full of compromises.

Exactly, & the steering wheel is usually the first thing that catches your eye when you look into a vehicle. Corvettes have a history of cheap-looking & ugly steering wheels. Why do you think so many owners swap theirs out for a better-looking, more expensive wheel? I just received my custom wheel a few weeks ago & it looks & feels 1000x better than stock.

Why on Earth would anything need to be compromised to have a better looking steering wheel...? Lol

I'm not sure where, when or how I have missed all of these sports car comparo's that are won and lost on how the steering wheels look.

Interior's yes. Steering wheels? No. It is something that can be swapped out if it really does bother you. On the other hand, the leather used everywhere, plastics, metals, woods, electrics, user interfaces. All things that are far more important in how an interior scores on form, function and aesthetics.

His is about the third GM alcantara wheel that I have seen this phenomenon of premature wearing. While we know GM’s alcantara substitute looks nice initially, I am with Tool Hoarder in preferring the leather on my steering wheel.

However, if I were to track my car, I could well feel differently.
Mine is a track car... the alcantara GM uses sucks. The material wears very fast and it comes unglued easily. The Sparco alcantara wheels in our two full race cars have taken years of use w/o any issue.

The wheel and shifter are the two things you touch constantly... they need to be right.

You posted pics of all of those steering wheels and went on to state that they are all somehow superior to that of the C7 but provide absolutely no specifics of what makes them that way. In fact, all of those steering wheels look and function differently. So which one of those wheels contains all of the "must have's" of great steering wheel aesthetics, design and functionality?

I happen to despise wheels with zero controls on them like that of the P cars. Those twiddly little stalks behind the wheel are hard to see and not intuitive to use at all. Climb into any of those cars and you will have absolutely no idea how those little stalks function or what they even do without some study. Buttons on the wheel, just like the C7 has and other wheels in your examples BTW, are much easier to quickly identify and understand what it is they do.

Absolutely agree that I have my hands on the wheel of my C7 the entire time I am in the car. But no, I do not stare at that wheel while I am driving it. I also realize that some people have to obsess over what often seems to be insignificant items. Specifically when you compare what they are complaining about to something they drive and have their hands on every day......

If they took the steering wheel straight out of the C7, made no changes to it whatsoever then placed it into a C8 that outperforms it, is absolutely fantastic looking in every other way and ends up being bullet proof reliable, I would still consider the car a complete and absolute home run and wouldn't think twice about the fact that GM did nothing to change up the steering wheel.

Which has absolutely nothing to do with how they LOOK.

Yes it does... the feel of the material, the stitching locations, the spoke count/position/design. It's all interconnected.

So, based on this. Which of the examples of good posted in this thread is the ideal steering wheel? It's a rhetorical question because you cannot judge feel or even stitching locations from any of those photos. You would need to actually have the wheel in your hands. Correct me if I'm wrong but has anyone that is saying the C8 wheel is bad actually had their hands on one yet? If not, how is it they can determine its a poor design and/or functions poorly. So far I have heard the alcantara on a C7 is not good. That's at least specific but again, something that could not be determined from looking at initial photo's of a C7 steering wheel with alcantara on it.

There is literally people arguing in this thread about how often you look at your steering wheel, and if you notice anything when you touch it...

This forum is really exhausting..

It's a shame people are so argumentative and pedantic about every single thing. I'm not here to argue how often someone looks at a wheel or touches it 😂

The c7 wheel is not great looking astetically.

The c8 wheel in the spy shots is pretty ugly IMO.

Just do a simple 3 spoke design with some buttons on it for Bluetooth. Nothing super fancy is needed. Plenty of other sports cars have nicer wheels that aren't exotic

It is a bit crazy but it's happening. I'll put it in the same category as pop-up headlights and round tail lights. I guess how the steering wheel looks is going to be an absolute show stopper and a non-starter for some C8 buyers. I wonder if the wheel in the prototype photo's is even the actual finished version????

A new thread is in order. "Will the steering wheel in the interior spy shots kill the C8?"
