Because any other door ends basically at the rubber seal...on the C8 it extends dramatically... THATS WHY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fully opened door, put picture doesn't show end point of door outer most, in this case the mention. rear air induction cowl's door trim piece.
Got a picture of someone getting in or out, door half closed as well as full open? Best angle for pictures to show outer edge of door for comparison, is standing at least rear of car, maybe farther back so we can see the room between car and door, and end point of door.
Person standing next to door to simulate side of a car.

Hmm, after washing the car pulled in closer to my Street Rod that usual. Even opening my door as normal, hit the Steet Rod door just slightly!
Have to agree, I park the C7 in the center of three 8 foot garage spots. Street Rod is on the Vettes drivers side (wife's SUV on the right.) Will get one of these "Dent Busters." Saw on Amazon.
OK, 2 Things, 1 - the door at its apex is 12 inches thick, combined with 2, the door hinge on the C8 is about 2 inches forward, of where the C7,s is, this is where the door pivots on, combined IMO, after sitting in the car, taking some measurements, checking how open the door needs to be for me to exit realistically, [5/8" 180 pds] the door will have to be open more than 30 ", Hence if someone was to park next to you 30" or less from your door, You are not getting in Your C8, until they return to move their vehicle, IMHO
I don't think it's that big a deal. If it is in fact 12" thick from the inner trim to the outermost spot on the door it's barely an inch thicker than a C5's door with body moulding. I've never found it to be a problem.
The "scooped" out middle section of the C8's door just exaggerates the top part's thickness.

Don’t waste your breath/time. Most fanboys won’t take the blinders off long enough to have a critical thought. But they’ll be the first ones wanting a class action against GM for making a door with a giant bird beak that keeps breaking or causing damage to other vehicles.
When delivery happens, and if this is not an issue... I’ll be the first one to admit I was wrong.

Now that is a critical thought! I do think this measurement is rather generous, looks more like 9” at the rear of the door. IN my professional non-professional opinion.
Mike, The difference is, that 90% of the door thickness in a C5 is from the door skin, inward, towards the driver, while on the C8, it is just reverse of that, with 90% of the door thickness being from the door skin, Outward. Getting in an out of a C8 is NO problem, WHEN YOU ARE AT A DEALERSHIP, an can open the door as much as you want! In real life, because the door is 12 plus inches thick, if a vehicle or a garage wall is 30" or less from the C8, YOU simply cannot EXIT or ENTER the C8! IMHO, those of you who think you will just park in the middle of the parking lot, with no vehicles around, What are you prepared to do when you return to your C8, an find someone has parked 30" or closer to your C8?

I called out this potential issue in another thread from the viewing at les Stanford. I don’t care what the naysayers think, I’m not dropping 85+ grand (as I was equipped) for “I hope I can open the doors” when I’m looking for a place to park. It will be redesigned down the road... so I’ll wait for the fix to this blunder and go for the Zora version.
BINGO! I get to work early everyday and park in the exact same spot, at the end of the row....If I'm out in town....I park where no one else is or at the end of the row. is it a PINA at times? yes....but that is the price we pay for having the baddest car on the block....bar none!
Hmm, I may just make up a foam pad I can slip two clips in the Street Rod window. Nothing on the ground "to clutter!"
The Street Rod with it's rigid TCI tubbed chassis, 4 bar link rear suspension, independent front suspension, coilovers and disk brakes in all 4 corners and a 502 cid engine - cost way more than the C8! Need to protect it!

You're correct. The yellow painted part is around 9" thick. But It's 11" from where my level was laying.. which is on the part of the inner door panel your body would be touching to the outside skin of the door.. I assumed that was what the OP had measured as 12". That's the only measurement that would really matter in a tight parking spot.
What is with all of these "getting into and out of the C8" threads? Just like any car, park accordingly and pay attention to your doors. End of story.
That’s all well and good .... and you have a valid point , but what if some guy parks a bit to close to your space ur gonna need to push your car to be able to get in if you have to leave
it should be a concern if you plan on driving your car as I will

Should be able to get one, seem everyone buying a C8, is considered, [ MENTALLY CHALLENGED] BY MOST.

Using this exact same measurement standard, my Lambo Gallardo is 14" wide.
