If that is a concern, you would not sleep at night when I had to give up my pick-up when between Vettes and bought a C6! This small trailer was a substitute until the wife got a Porsche Cayenne and now has a BMW X5 SUV so no need! Had to store in somewhere!

Yep, Amazon shows many types. A number magnetic that are not useful on a fiberglass door!

Thought the one I found would fit my situation (see pic post #35) BUT after looking, have a better idea!
  1. I will fabricate two hooks that slip in my Street Rod window to body gap.
  2. Coat them in liquid rubber to protect the Street Rod door.
  3. Then hang a section of foam rubber where the "birds beak" might hit.
That will work for my situation. Have it made before the C8 arrives! The Street Rod mostly goes to Car Shows, so no big deal slipping off when needed.

Funny, many forum "experts" were saying that "bird beak," as it was called, was just faux camo on the prototypes and would not be on the actual C8! They said the peak would be damaged and cause problems - turns out it does!

In my garage, I have mounted a pool floating tube on each side of the cars parking space. If the door is opened too fa, it simply hit Ito the foam instead of something that will damage it.

OP is right, A lot of respondents figure they know better because of previous cars. BTW I parked my MB way out on the edge of an empty lot last week, came back in an hour and the lot was full. Also we have a lot of pickups in our area. And they are wide. A lot of the lots are narrow stalls.
If the Corvette is going be a daily driver it's got to be usable.
I can get out of my MB if I am 17 in or 8 in door skin to door skin/ mirror to mirror. I'd be cursing the parker but doable.
Will have to measure my C7.
Maybe the days of the daily driver VET are over. .

Isn't this one of those things you bitch about AFTER you get your car? Come on. What else can we complain about with this sub $100K super car? Go buy a 4 door Cadillac CTSV and call it a day.

Hmm, no need to "bitch" if you consider "potential issues" and plan ahead. Suggest reading Andy Grove's (past CEO of Intel) book "Only the Paranode Survive!" Used that philosophy well before Grove's book! Anticipate and plan what you'll do IF it happens! Always did that considering what a competitor might do IF we do... etc.

Also use it driving, particularly today when I see someone coming the other way on a narrow twisty road with ditches either side going over the center line ; "What will I do if this AH is looking at their dam phone?"

In this case, easy to make something to fit my Street Rod while I wait for the C8 to arrive!

I think you should cancel your order.

Short of that, why not program and conduct detailed 3D parking simulations with variable width spots and garage setbacks. Be sure to include random distance adjacent parking scenarios.

Run about a million simulations and figure out if the data supports your phobia.

But I honestly think cancelling is your best bet.

My God, people want this car to do EVERYTHING! This is what happens when you make something like the C8 obtainable by the masses, otherwise this conversation wouldn't be happening. 'The car better be all things to all people GM, or by God we won't buy it.' LOL

I don't park my Grand Sport next to any possible AH! Didn't my 1988, 1993, 2008, 2014 C7 Vettes or my 260Z etc. Prefer to park as far away as possible in malls etc. When I was working parked 100 yards away from the front door at the end of our ~1000 person lot where only my Plasma Product/Business Manager parked his Vette (hi Bob!) Dam good exercise as well!

That is how you "anticipate issues." I drive aggressively and never had an accident in 60 years (looking for wood as that took luck as well.) But looking out for AH drivers in all mirrors at all times sure helped!

The C8 needs a key fob button which backs the car up far enough out of a tight parking space to open the door sufficiently.

I think the people that think this is a potential issue are the ones that actually use the car for utility, not a weekend toy. I've been daily driving an 07 since new, over 12 years now. After 150k miles, one of my biggest complaints is that the door hinge could really use a 3rd detent between the barely open and fully open position. My two car garage is laughable is size, at 18 ft wide and I park my car and my wife's Nissan Rogue in there. I back in and my passenger mirror is usually < 0.5 inches from the wall. This usually allows me to open the door fully to get in an out, depending on how the wife parks. While that's not always necessary, it is nice to be able to do so.

When I'm at the store, I usually park where there is room on both sides or I will park near a non-parking space but this is not always practical due to availability or weather. If I was physically unable to get into my car because someone parked next to me that would exclude the vehicle from being a daily driver. I have no idea if the C8 will be as bad as some think, but I know that after a few months of people living with the car, we will find out.

Based on the pix of the blue C8 and the door protrustions, this could be problematic when parking in the average home garage where two vehicles are parked. . Mine is nearly a 3 car (with just a double door) so I could angle our Mini in to allow more room for the C8 on the driver side.. But as parked in picture, I could not exit the C8. Additionally the C8 is 2 inches wider then C7.

The Vette, as now, will be in the middle spot BUT will need a door protector for the Street Rod. There is suffcicent gap between the door and winow to use pieces of curved sheet metal covered with shrink tubing or plastic dip for protection. May add some "Mole Skin" to the surface that touches the door. After pulling in I angle to the left to give the wife room so she doesn't hit the Vette! The partially opened Vette door gets very close now! Pic makes it look like more room than is really there.

Will Make Padded Door Protector That Can Hang From Window Gap
