When I saw the engine appearance package at the 25th Corvette Museum Anniversary I liked it. Then after seeing the price and thinking about it I thought, heck my C7 doesn’t have an “appearance” package to hide the engine so why should my C8? I rather use the money on appearances I can actually see either in the interior or exterior not the engine.
That said, a colored engine cover is a whole other topic.
It is, in fact, ALL of the story related to the OP's question concerning the Engine Appearance Package. You are referring to a Engine Cover accessory that is on constraint and has been confirmed to cost $495 when available.
Is not the "engine cover accessory" part of the engine appearance? Why would you want to "light up" an engine that was dull and drab?. Make it red or silver and it affects the "appearance" rather MORE than just a couple of LEDs and some carbon fiber. I can't imagine doing one without the other. It seems nonsensical. In fact, the reason they made those two issues separate was simply to maximize more profit.
Two separate and distinct items. Option ZZ3 includes four items total, e.g., two visible carbon fiber, decorative, vented covers and two LED’s @ $995. The engine covers which are optionally Edge Red or Silver, cost $495. Neither one is contingent upon getting the other.

Absolutely technically true, but why would you get one and not the other? What's the point? GM always messes with bundles. It used to be that you couldn't get MSRC without the Z51 wheels and spoiler, but not the actual Z51 dry sump package. Then they unbundled it so you could. For the C8 they put it back together again. So now they've bundled together the LED lights and a couple of carbon fiber support beams. That's all the "Engine display package" is. Then, in their infinite wisdom, they priced the colored plenum extra. IMO this makes no sense whatsoever, but there's no denying they did it. Next year, who knows? Suddenly it could be all one package. That's how they roll.

No OEM Appearance or Engine Cover accessory for me. I plan minimal mods to my C8. It will be fun searching for aftermarket solutions that replace both and offer more variety. Have you been to Pep Boys lately to see all the new LED Lighting solutions, and the options are growing every month? As for the engine cover there will be many an online exchange solution with unique paint jobs too. Or, wait until August at Corvettes at Carlisle for an install.

Why get one without the other? Because not everyone has the same tastes. Someone may like the idea of a red engine cover, but they’re not a fan of carbon fiber. Or, they are a fan of Carbon Fiber, but prefer the stock silver engine cover. Some may like both, CF Dress Up and a colored engine cover, some may like neither. Everyone is different. GM is offering variety to appeal to different people’s likes.

Good Lord. Same is true with any bundle. I did not want a Z51 spoiler and Z51 wheels with my MSRC, but guess what? I got them because that's how they bundled. I had no choice. The next year they unbundled it so someone like you could say, "because not everyone has the same tastes. Someone may like the idea of a red engine cover, but they’re not a fan of carbon fiber. I didn’t see the power cable going to the hatch on the black one at the NCM that didn’t have the appearance package. You’re also missing the switch to turn it on/off. Carbon fisher covers of this quality aren’t cheap, but at $995 I skipped it.
I really hate that they picked edge red fro the valve covers and engine cover. What were they thinking? C5 and C6 Z06 all had bright red engine covers. Who wants burgundy? Bright red would go with more colors IMO.
Where and And When was this confirmed. Because I was given different information for the corvette concierge

Good Lord to you! You’re the one that said “... but why would you get one and not the other? What's the point?” (referring to the Engine Dress Up kit and the painted Engine Cover). Well the point is because not everyone has the same tastes. Duh.
I personally think its a nice touch...A bit on the expensive side however. I plan on getting a vert so it wont be worth it for me, but if I were opting for a coup, I'd probably check that box. And, if you change the color of the light bulbs to match the car or accents of the car would really look cool...IMO of course!
No-one has mentioned the relative cooling / heat management difference between the engine bay without the engine appearance package and the engine bay with the appearance package.
However, one has to imagine that, if the appearance package provided a significant cooling advantage, GM would provide stock / non carbon fiber covers and provide the carbon fiber appearance package as an option.
Given the above, the question becomes, does the appearance package interfere with engine bay cooling a little bit?
