Are there any side by side pics of the engine with and without the appearance pkg. Not sure if spending a grand is worth it on something that does not change much
There are pictures of cars with and without the engine appearance package. It's basically two carbon fiber pieces that fit over the front left and front right side of the engine bay. They DO NOT replace pieces with carbon fiber, only lay over existing structural ones so it doesn't save any weight and in fact adds a little. It also includes two led lights on the upper under side of the trunk to light up the engine bay when the trunk is open. In my opinion, the aftermarket will do a much better job at both of these things and for a whole lot less money.

I like the covers BUT they do not do a good job of "covering" what needs to be covered. I've ordered them but am deciding if the aftermarket will provide a better solution.
Correct, and this is only half the story. You can ALSO buy a colored engine cover in red and (I think) white, which would complement the carbon fiber--for another grand. So to get the full effect of the lighting, you would need both packages.

Engine covers are available in edge red or sterling silver and they're $600 if I recall. They're LPO deal installed and on constraint. I want the silver one.

The Edge Red and Silver engine covers cost $495 (once they become available, for now constrained). We had heard this amount from a Concierge in early August, but to verify, I emailed Harlan. He confirmed the $495 price.
What would be really cool is taking the heat shielding off and having the headers jet hot coated. But they obviously put all that heat shielding there for a reason.
So without this option you get no LED lights in the engine bay?
Yes, without the Engine Appearance Package you get no LED lights that shine down on, or into, the engine bay. I believe the cargo area has a light on all cars.

It is, in fact, ALL of the story related to the OP's question concerning the Engine Appearance Package. You are referring to a Engine Cover accessory that is on constraint and has been confirmed to cost $495 when available.
I’m ordering my C8 without the painted Engine Cover and without the CF Engine Appearance package. Then after I pick up the car I’ll check the price at the Chevy Parts Counter at the dealership. If history repeats, I’ll get a nice discount on the parts if I get them at the Parts Counter and install them myself.
