Took delivery of my 2022 coupe a couple of months ago, no spots. I Would love it if somebody came up with a way to cover those vents though, at least something so they're not a straight up holes letting everything in. Maybe a reverse scoop like contraption. You should see where I live come mountain cedar pollen time. That yellow crap is everywhere.

I painted mine with Rustoleun bed liner material sold at home depot. No more water spots. Saw a zo6 in a show room and it looks like the panels had some coating on then to prevent spotting. I am happy with what I did after seeing it on another c8 at a car show
Funny, just checked and when this Thread was started March 2020 many "home remedies" for water spots were suggested! Even more aggressive chemicals like CRL. No home remedies worked! Got my Car September 2021, saw what didn't work and what some said did! Appeared early in production the 12,000 gallons/minute of water BG used to check for leaks and recycled was the cause. Have not heard as many complaints by far! Perhaps they are treating that recycled water differently.
I used Meguiar's Water Spot Remover as some stated worked. It did 90%. I had used Meguiar's G15812 Ultimate Plastic Restorer Black on my 2014 Z51 GM Splash Guards and put them on my 2017 Grand Sport. Took several coats but the splash guards looked new.
With the C8 took several coats of Ultimate Black AND rubbing hard with a rag worked for me. States you can use a buffer. In now 2 years year I have had my C8 used it a few more times after washing. Just one light coat. Looks fine for me.
BTW the vents are not the issue from my observation. Water does get past the hatch seals top and sides. BUT not that much and when washing the 4 to 6 oz that gets in is great! I pick it up with the corner of a towel and wipe the dust off the engine and flat panels! Dry with the towel that is 75% dry! Takes only a few minutes. Seldom need to repeat the Meguires Ultimate Black. When I have it's just a small amount and little rubbing.
Use water spot remover from the boating world. My favorite is Tommy's Hot Sauce, takes water spots off my gel coat, chrome, glass, etc. Everything that gets wet on the boat, plus leaves a light wax protection behind for a decent shine and mild protection.
A weak acid like vinegar or CLR will dissolve the minerals.
This works very well..The manager at the local Tint World gave me a bottle to try..He could see the bad mineral deposits left behind from the BGA water test.
You are going to get these spots every time you drive in the rain. Learn to live with it.
First I don’t drive my C8 in the rain ever, my car was delivered from the dealership like that. So in my eyes the problem is on the manufacture & dealership.
use mothers back in black will take care of it no issues.
yeah mothers should work. You can also use vinegar or any hard water stain remover. A real detailing place would be using distilled water. Whoever this place is, they are no pros.

I could see asking the dealer to clean it up, but water spots in an engine compartment is a problem of the manufacturer?

This was a big issue when I got my 2020 but have not seen a lot of comments since. The consensus was it was the factory Water Test NOT shipping or the dealer. Mine never was wet from when GM put on the white plastic cover! No water spots on the car the dealer never touched (at my request.) (GM said they use like 12,000 gallons of water to test every car. Can watch BG video's and see the deluge with someone inside looking! Had assumed GM fixed the water quality as it's obviously recycled.
At the time, lots of suggesting as the water sports were large and stubborn to remove. None of the "usual" remedies worked for me. Then used two Meguire's products. First their water spot remover. Then their Ultimate Black Plastic Restorer. Two applications of that did the trick. I had used that when I made my 2014 C7 splash guards look like new for my 2017 Grand Sport! In fact, just used it the other day to make a faded from 25 years in the sun, patio fiberglass tabletop looking new.
Great stuff. As it says can use a powered buffer but for the C8 just rubbed hard with a towel. In two years only used it again with one coat.
No water spots on my C8 exterior as I watched the Courtesy Deliver Service Manager and Dealer Owner' son remove the white shipping plastic while I took pics! They never washed the car per my request so never say water from when it left BG. The consensus in 2020 was it was the ~12,000-gallon water leak test that caused the very heavy water spots on the engine compartment interior. Thought from much less posting of the subject GM fixed the recycled water or whatever!
Man this is out of control. It is hard water mineral deposit. White Vinegar and a microfiber cloth will get it off I feel sure. IT could be from some wax type solution applied by the dealer, spray on… I think a good cleaning with white vinegar will take it off.
