I haven’t updated the Nav map in our Infiniti since we got it 5 years ago and haven’t missed much. Don’t really care if it shows me driving thru fields now and again

Like I was taught many decades ago by the finest, DO NOT rely on any One form of Navigation. I will use Google Maps, Waze, and the Internal Nav concurrently to see if there are any differences, ....Plus preflight with actual Paper Maps as necessary. NONE of them is infallible, but Android Auto on the INFOTAINMENT screen is SIGNIFICANTLY easier to Read, Follow, Use, ...That is probably the reason, aside from overcharging for map updates, I will probably only update the SD Nav Card once every 5 or more Years at a time - if ever.

On of the advantages of the OEM navigation system on the C7 was that it displayed information in the HUD but AA/CarPlay didn't. Does the C8 display OEM navigation information in the HUD? How about AA/CarPlay information?

I'll check next time I am out, but I do not recall it showing.

Default Hmm?

With MY2021, wireless Apple CarPlay will allow you to use your iPhone map apps displayed on the Info Screen. So you can use Apple or Google Maps with always the latest greatest. Plus Waze if you are in an area that offers it. Our C7 Nav never impressed me much, so we used our seemingly ancient Garmin which came with lifetime updates. Something about Old School can be comforting.

I only updated the maps in our cars because they finished this new bridge across the river It makes a lot easier to get places. Without the updates, it shows the car boating across the Mississippi river! But on routes you get sent the long way around. It was worth it to update, but I could care less about a new road in Alabama. And not every store or restaurant even shows up in NAV. I think most places have to pay to be included, or that's how it seems.

I haven't updated my Marine Nav Cards in 2 decades because the Fuel Tax money that is supposed to be for maintenance of the waterways has been non-existent for even longer. NO dredging or channel maintenance to speak of. One can run aground following the marker poles! My existing nav cards do me just fine.

Nobody pays to be included. Stores and restaurants open (new) and close (cease operations) so frequently that it will always be out of date.

Yep, I had unknowingly popped it out. Interesting what the owners manual says on page 323, re OnStar being required.

That's for "connected services" OnStar Turn-By-Turn Navigation can calculate a route for you and download it to your vehicle independent of the Nav unit.

I just bought a 2020 C8 Z51 last night and the SD card is missing. Someone took it out, which majes no sense since they are bound to the VIN from what I have read. So I had to order one from GM for $100. I tried to put a regular SD card in there and try to update through ON Star but no luck. It wont read the card
