Sorry that something as major as an engine failure had to happen to your car. Hopefully your dealer and GM can get things sorted out and get you back on the road soon.
Something is going on at GM. I just spoke to my sales lady and she told me of a recent incident of someone buying a new Tahoe high country and the engine blew with 8 miles on the clock still at the Dealership while they were gassing it up just before delivering it.

It is not just GM. I have been noticing quite a few mentions of these type of "catastrophic" issues with Jeep/Chrysler, Ford, KIA, GM, etc etc.
It almost seems like a supplier/parts issue with inferior parts being used to build out major components...like ENGINES. Why? Hmmm. COVID affecting raw materials/parts shortages? Lack of QC? Internet comms highlighting issues that have always been present but remained unknown/local?
As far as C8's go....we are approaching what...100,000 units. Failure rate of engines is probably VERY low....but still enough to garner our attention.
NOOOOOO! Not again! I hope they supplied you with something decent to drive, because from what I've seen it will be a while. All the best, in any event.
(btw, did you ask if the guys at the dealership it's at have ever dealt with this same issue before?)

Didn't get a chance to ask if theyve dealt with it before
I imagine it'll be a while as well. I was at work through the night so haven't even been to the dealer, had to facilitate everything while on a shift. I have my 2017 BRZ still so I'm back to dailying it.
With more than 100,000 C8s on the road, these failures are certainly rare. Like everything else made by man, perfection is elusive. Nonetheless, bad for the owner it happens to. In every case we've seen on the forums, GM has stepped up and simply replaced the engine, no questions asked.
**** happens. As a retired auto tech I can say I've seen new cars come off the transport with engine and transmission issues. Yet the majority of the product line is fine and the vehicles last for a long, long time.
Nothing on this planet is perfect.
Look at humans. Some die at birth and some live to be over 100; and everywhere in between.
Be glad we have warranties to cover things that "happen". Yes it suck when it happens to you but it does not automatically equal some systemic issue to freak out over.
Can we all agree that all these failures are a rarity and it’s just par for the course for a forum? Nobody is rethinking buying a c8 are they?
Only it isn't "par for the course" for a forum. I should amend that: Maybe for a GM forum it is. These are on average $85-$90K cars and engines in no way should be taking a dump within 500 miles. I frequent the Hellcat forums and these types of HARD engine and transmission problems are virtually unheard of. (Supercharger bearing noise issues early on but that was the extent of it) There was a guy who was leaving his Hellcat and moving into a new C8, he was waxing fantastic about how his Z51 was " a second quicker to 60 than a Redeye". After 2 transmission replacements and the third acting up, he traded the car back and is in a 2023 Redeye Challenger Jailbreak and couldn't be happier. He said his C8 experience was a complete nightmare--including how it was handled by Chevrolet.

Yeah you're right, no big deal. I wouldn't mind at all if a 25 year old kid was tasked with R&Ring a whole engine assembly in a PITA to work on car like a C8. ESPECIALLY my BRAND NEW $90,000 C8 with 500 miles. After all, "**** happens" and the most talented and smartest techs ALL hope and pray they wind up at a local small town Chevrolet dealer one day. The heck with Ferrari, McLaren or Lamborghini--CHEVY is where the industry's best & brightest wind up. Cream of the crop. 🙄
