I finally received and installed my first software update tonight and it went well. Left the windows down and frunk open as precaution but went without a hitch, except it said it needed connected to apple carplay first attempt, so turned it on and left the phone in the car. Assuming this is normal?
I don't know why an update would want a connection to apple carplay? Was your update already downloaded (do you have automatic downloads enabled in your settings)? The only thing I can think of is maybe it wanted to use your phone to download the update, but even that seems far-fetched.
Your second section is specifically referring to OnStar updates.
Mabye. Its in the OnStar section, and I did notice that, and it has also been in every manual. But I think it is ambiguous. The title of the paragraph says "Vehicle Software Updates". And, when I read all the things it says those updates may affect, it does not sound like it is limited to the the telematics software. It mentions all this: "These updates or changes may enhance or maintain safety, security, or the operation of the vehicle or the vehicle systems.Software updates or changes may affect or erase data or settings that are stored in the vehicle, such as saved navigation destinations or pre-set radio stations. "
In any case, the other stuff is currently missing from the 2024 manual, about prompting for download and/or install. Perhaps its just an earlier version and will be fixed. Maybe its nothin'.

I’m not sure either I just went and scrolled through my settings but didn’t notice automatic downloads enable. I’m going to say no since it did its downloading process last night. But like I said it gave me a fail on first attempt due to apple carplay. I went, grabbed my phone and there was a notification on my phone. Clicked it and off it went. I sat there a minute or two and then walked away for about 15 minutes and it was done and car dash was off. As it started to do its download I heard something that sounded like the electric parking brake too. One big computer!
I should mention - I once got a message about a failed update when I did not initiate an install nor even see any notice of an available download or update. I chalked it up to just a glitch, not an actual update attempt that failed. And, I do not see how an install can be allowed without permission since it involves disabling the car temporarily. Maybe some do not. The manual says "For most updates, the vehicle will be disabled and cannot be driven during the installation." Notice it says "most" . This implies some may not.

This sounds like an update to one of the apps, like Spotify or Pandora, rather than to the vehicle software. Although I've never seen one of those actually prompt before. Did it give you an update number, like N23-nnnnnnn?
The latest update was installed without me. I noticed on my Chevy app that an install had taken place. The update popped up when I started the car last week but I ignored it. Now it comes up as a completed update. 🤷🏻♂️

Downloads, on the other hand, can happen by themselves if you have configured them that way in the update settings.
GM has sent out at least THREE updates that update the update (OTA) process. It's certainly POSSIBLE they've change it to allow updates in the background as long as the car is parked. I kind of doubt it, but given GM's lack of communication (on almost everything, but definitely the OTA process, it's not impossible.
Anyone have the issue of the TPMS not reading after the latest update? If so were you able to resolve?
2022 HTC, non-51, built Feb 2022. This happened with my first update (July 2022). Drove the car about 5 minutes and tire pressure came back on. Never an issue since.
Finally received my first update today. My car was built 1/3/23 and delivered 2/4/23. The update was N23-2407890. I opened the frunk as a precaution but the update completed without an issue in less than five minutes.

Perfect thanks. this worked as soon as I got down my street.
Ok, anyone have this issue where the display is the same for all drive modes? You change it for one and it changes it for all. I think this is the last issue I have.

Well, does the proposed solution, at the link you quoted, fix it or not? If not, then it is a bug. Just go to display design, find the Link to Driver Mode, and click it. Should undo what is going on.
So like everyone else, PRIOR to getting all these updates, my car is driving fine, and everything works.
Just wondering exactly WHAT these updates actually improve? I've seen no difference in anything...
