Hey there. I must be living right. RockAuto just shipped my 12 qt order this AM. SOOOOOO, if there's a "system-wide shortage", it must only be in the GM system in Florida (and apparently in San Antonio,TX too). Strange indeed. My guess is, the dealers who are now zero balance for fluid have been asleep at the supply switch. DCT is a critical "consumable" - and given that fact (and the fact there are very few other consumables as critical as this one), there should have been red flags, flashing lights and alarm bells going off throughout the service section when the stockage level dropped to the min allowable level - which - because it takes 12 Qts to do a flush and fill, should have been no lower than 12 qts - but probably multiples of 12 qts to be safe. Supply system 101.
I did something right also. I'm supposed to have my 12 qrts tomorrow. 😁
We have all levels of people on this Forum, some with vast knowledge of the automotive industry as well as impressive insight. Rather than speculate and go around and around on this issue can some of the elite elders explain and elaborate what is currently happening with trans fluid as well as the shortage of Mobil 1 Supercar oil.
This could become a critical issue going forward as it pertains to our adult play toys and not being able to take them out of our garages for enjoyment, if we can't have them serviced in a timely fashion

You already started a thread on this topic elsewhere and I posted there.
The last "shortage" in 2023 that I could find was a result of additives not being available. I'm not seeing a wide spread report across other car brands forums indicating an issue... it appears to be a gm dealership issue and not a supply chain from Mobil / distribution issue.
I have been trying for well over a month now to get the required "36 month" DTC fluid drain and fill accomplished on my '21 C-8 in North Florida. I have contacted all 7 of the dealers within 75 miles of my home (including one in south GA) ALL of them show the fluid on backorder and NONE of them can tell me when they expect to get it. The supply code is listed as "direct delivery" which, I am told, means that it's a system-wide problem. So, now I am past the 36-month fluid drain and fill timeline - with no end in sight.
The good news is - I did find 2 dealers that had ONE QT each in stock and managed to get one dealer to buy a quart from the other one so I could get my fluid level topped off after the required cartridge filter change. Yay!
Is this truly a system-wide outage, or am I just lucky to be in North Florida?
My Dealer, Sarasota, is backordered as well. I just ordered from RockAuto $25 and change plus tax and shipping.
I only have about 2100 miles on my 2024 just over a year old. When it comes out in the spring I will do the first oil change, replace the DCT filter after running the hydraulic flush (Amazon $150 2024 Launch Creader Elite V2.0 for GM and already checked it for the test), replace the cover bolts with a different style and cutout and install a DCT access door cover I bought.
Still not sure if I am going to buy and replace the fluid this early in its life (bought a $10 HF pump container just for this). I won't pay GM for something I can do in my spare time since I'm retired. Still hoping a suitable cheaper approved tranny fluid is published soon. Valvoline still iffy since I have not read about any warranty claims using it yet.
Will use the free oil change at the end of 2025 (just before 2 year mark) and free DCT filter change in the end of 2026 (3 year mark) hopefully at the 7500 mile area.
As long as I document everything I should have no issues with any warranty claim on base and extended warranties.
Wish I could do it now but too tight and dangerous using Quickjack in a standard 2 car garage, outside blacktop is safer.

Good plan. I'm a believer in changing fluids early on the first one. I changed oil, DCT filter and fluid at 2450. Oil analysis came back "normal" for first change. Elevated levels of typical break-in material as well as sealant residues and some fuel dilution. Second analysis came back much cleaner. I didn't have the DCT fluid checked. I'll change my DCT filter and fluid yearly (or sooner based on hours) as I track my car. I'll only use GM approved fluids at this point in time. If you have the car up in the air, I'd freshen up all the fluids. I use a quick jack in a two car garage albeit with only one car in it to do my service. No issue in my case.

Why do you think your quick jack is too dangerous in your garage? I would rather mine be on concrete as opposed to blacktop. Here's mine when I did my 1st oil change and rotated my tires.

Just a point of clarification: the '24'23 and up models have the software on-board to run the valves through the correct sequence: earlier models rely on the diagnostic software. I would be pleasantly surprised if your Launch can support the earlier models.
Have a good one,
Mike

Reason: Corrected model year

I believe the software is embedded in MY23 and up.

What is dangerous about using a QJ in a garage???? It's not like it throws the car up in the air like a catapult, thing moves pretty slow so you can check clearance easily as it goes up.

Yes, I would like to know also. I use my Quickjack all the time in a standard 2 car garage - wouldn't be without it for the C8.

It's dangerous in my garage because it is only 24x25 and I have every wall and end filled with 10 large tool cabinets and shelves. Both the GT500 and C8 are in there covered for the winter so there is only a persons width space between the car and cabinets and maybe a 4 ft center isle out...with lolli columns. Kinda tight if anything goes awry and easy to damage the paint on the cars, Very little spare space to move around in. I may try it after taking some more measurements.

That tire on the right side is about all the space I have between the side of the car and the 6ft high tool chests. The drivers door on mine is next to a lally column so it can only be opened if the car is at certain spots. My 80s garage is not an open space center like newer garages. Maybe time to build a new one with a real lift.
What is the EOS date on those AC DELCO containers from RockAuto? I need a little for the filter change but may order the amount needed for a drain now and just store it for 1 1/2 years. It may be worth more than gold by then. Found it cheaper at a dealer until they wanted $85 to ship it.
Question: If I have the dealer do the free DCT filter change / flush at 7500 and I do the fluid change around the same time at the 3 year mark, I would think it would probably be better to change the fluid afterwards.....agree?

I don't think so. Seems like there are more 3rd party suppliers having it in stock (use to be only Summit, now RA has joined the market), at much better prices and in stock.

The order is probably (note probably) not critical, because those services are on separate schedules and can occur at separate times and in either order. With very low miles per year, it might be time to replace the fluid before the first filter change. With higher mileage per year, It will be time to replace the filter well before the fluid. And there is no requirement to replace filter when the fluid is replaced. But, if I were doing both at one time myself, I would start by doing the Hydraulic System flush, then remove and replace the filter, then drain and replace the fluid, perform the transmission fluid level check, the run the Hydraulic System Leak test, then button it up.
If doing them as separate steps I would still do the fluid after the filter, like you said. So, at the dealer, if they follow the steps, they will run the HSF, change the filter, then do the level check and leak test. Then at home drain and replace the fluid and do the level check. But, i don't think the order is critical.
