dct likely has much improved clutch management over a "bad clutch foot" but there's a limit to what the hard parts will take

the rear engine plants the torq and loads the clutches to get 2.8 out of 495 hp.

that being said, the old ZF 6 spds in the zr1 seem to be holding up way beyond "rated" values so until we can hop up the car and test is, it's all speculation

I'll bet you can upgrade the clutches and tuning "some day" but it won't be for a while and it will be an expensive upgrade unless gm give a reasonable path to unlock for tuning

Well it won’t hold 1200 according to Hennessy, though not sure what their “upgraded and fortified” trans is exactly or if they even do yet.

engineering dream and targets are still vapor ware. I don't know how you have a 1200 hp version of a car not yet released. pretty mean trick

I have a 2400 hp quad turbo c8 Joe Isuzu

Usually 15 percent more than stock hp would be a safe bet...so in this case Id limit modded LT2 s to 75 hp and tq...maybe reaching upward of 120 hp and 120 lb ft of tq...if you must...

zero to sixty in 2.8 seconds isnt quick enough?...

thats more car than I am driver right from the factory...

if I needed more speed from 100 mph or above..,the factory z06 model will be available in around 2 years...

remember the 300k mile validation process gm puts its products through is world class...

i wouldnt personally give that up...better to sell your 2020 c8 z51 and buy a c8 z06 if you feel you need more speed.

durability wise and monetarily it just makes more sense.

blow up that dct with a modded engine and youll be crying at the bill...

maybe a hundred to 120 hp and tq extra from a bolt on supercharger for 8 to ten grand installed can be pulled off reliably...but better to just sell the 2020 c8 and buy a 2023 c8 z06...(with a full warranty, fresh tires that 300k mile validation testing done by GM itself)

next up tesla full ev supercar at 200 grand and of course their will be less expensive variants from other manufacturers soon enough...

that party is less than 7 years away at pricing and range not to mention quick charge capability if we read the tea leaves correctly...

not exactly a fan but face it as its coming...

batterys in the floorplan....low center of gravity..instant torque ...massive power...300 mile range, 15 /20 minute 80 percent recharges , over the air $2000 over the air updates sold for a half a second improvement in zero to sixty times...with in tact warranty no less...

the ICE hot rods time is almost over....

I'd love to see another motor between motor and dct with a stronger dct with taller gears, front motor, and a super capacitor array and very small battery pack for KERS style regen braking and energy management.

chevy can do this, and you have ferrari level performance at a working joe price. More exotic materials are needed for the electric motors and batteries as they are very heavy and ripe for better materials and development

vette has to loose a bit of weight and that target becomes very tough Not sure what a 4k lb vette will look like in a durability race

My best guess is the engine will go up only about 100 -150 hp over base and the extra grunt for Z06s and ZR1s will come from electric motors in front, with slim batts under the floorboards for power, and the clever Volt-style electric charging system in the electrical package. There is plenty of room for batts under the floors on either side of the center tunnel and for motors in front where the frunk lives. These machines will be all wheel drive and will have advanced torque vectoring.

I feel confident they will eat almost any other car's lunch anywhere near their price. I would suggest they will be pricier than the simpler C7 variants, but that is to be expected.

i think you will see more HP, but it will be high up in the rpm range and I don’t think the actual torque will increase as much. This is characteristic of smaller CI but higher reving engines.

GM (Tremec) would be foolish if the C8 DCT cannot handle at least 40% more TQ than stock.
If the tranny can handle the TQ enough cooling can be supplied to handle the HP.
TQ breaks things, HP burns them up.

How much, approximately would it cost to replace/rebuild the C8 DCT without warranty coverage?
Say,about $15K (as a pure guess.)

I have read numerous quotes from BMW regarding the power and torque capacity of the dual clutch transmissions. One article stated that they were reaching the threshold.

Then again, everyone has seen videos of underground racing Lamborghini Gallardo's and Hurican's making 1,000++ to the wheels with DCTs

I can speak from experience coming from an Audi RS3 that has a dct. With a tcu tune to add more clamping force, it can easily handle at least 600 ft-lbs of torque. I would guess the unit in corvette would be even more then that.

All performance cars deserve a DCT in 2020.
User complaints for harshness is why many have switched back. We left Audi for BMW for the nicer shifting ZF transmissions. The DCT from them was very undesirable.

This forum will likely be full of complaints with the same very soon.

I believe the transmission will need to be built stronger to handle the reported 613 hp thats rumored for the 2022 Z06. And with 9,000 rpm.

But the Z06 engine with 617 HP only has 550 lb-ft of TQ ! So it falls well inside the capabilities of the transmission--except for the 7500 RPM red line thingie.

I feel the weakest link of the DCT is the clutches. So a decent upgraded clutch pack might be it. If that’s the case the current C8 DCT gearing is just as strong that will end up in the Z06 which is cost effective.

Awhile back I asked a Tremec engineer, a guy who's been driving C8 mules from the beginning. "100 hp or so more than stock". He also said the next C8 'variant' will be a flat plane crank NA V8

The max torque capability is usually defined by 1st gear torque multiplication. With the C7 Z06 they just changed the gear ratios so it could handle more torque! They also shaved the safety factor a bit.
But how did the handle the trans with the ZR1, which is the same as the C7 Z6 gearing- unlike the lower 1st in my Grand Sport? They limited engine power electronically in 1st gear! They also increased the strength of the spider gears, none to be a weak link.. They said they would use those in all 7 speeds.
