So GM can make the front lift auto-operate based upon gps location but they couldn't pre-load track maps to auto-load based upon gps position? AIM has been doing it for years.
I doubt it was GM. They are using the Cosworth PDR in the car. They didn't design or develop the product, They just purchased it.

As Bill stated, the system is designed by Cosworth and they worked with GM (and Porsche) on the requirements. I don't understand your objection through, there is a big "Learn" button on the display that will use the GPS to create the track definition the first time out. I'd much rather have that than have to rely on the vendor to create a track map for my track and configuration and then have to go download it to the card. The only reason I started publishing a set of pre-built track files was to make sure folks had the start/finish line defined at the same location.

I guess I will reserve further comment until I get my Z06 and can play with it. I've had MoTeC and AIM systems in my race cars and never had the negative views about them that so many seem to have about the Cosworth system. I hope I can at least edit start/finish to the published gps coordinates later after it "learns" tracks. Or maybe I can find a way to convert AIM track maps.
As it turns out, I took the files from C7 track map as available on this forum, opened in Google Earth and check "Create KML LineStrings" in addition to the other two options, resaved it in GPX file, put it on my SD card. It worked well and PDR recognized the track as soon as I arrived in Road America. So, previous C7 track map files do work with C8 after you resaved it in Google Earth. The only cleanup needed was to relocate the start/finish line to the same point manually in Google Map. Happy to do a few tracks for all if you want some, so you can save time on relearning the tracks.
Had a lot of fun during my first visit at Road America last Friday. Did 2:34.1 on all-OEM stock C8 Z51 with year-old 7000 miles tires that had two prior track days on it, will want to go back there for sure! Now I understand why it's a magical place that is the "National Park of Speed"
