Default PDR - track maps?

So, I’m trying this out for the first time. I figured out how to make a “custom” track, so I can create any track I’m on, but how do I load up a track map into the cosworth app/pdr?

This thread may help. I used it to troubleshoot start/finish problems and to format for AutoX courses that aren't circuits.

The C8 version of the PDR is now PDR2. The C7 is now called PDR1. The current version of Cosworth Toolbox is "version 3.0 (build 406 - Update 1)". You can download it here:

http://download.cosworth.com/downloa...r/GM/Index.htm

The PDR2 uses a different format for the Start/Finish line so you cannot directly copy a ".map.gpx" file of your favorite track to an SD card and then insert it a C8. But what you can do if you have a PDR1 (C7) video of your favorite track loaded on your PC is create a track map then export it to the SD card that you want to use in your C8. That will create two files on the SD card. One will be a ".map.gpx" file that you can use in a C7 and a "filename.gpx" that you can use in a C8. You would want to change the name "filename.gpx" to the real trackname like "VIR.gpx". So, how do you create and export?

After downloading Toolbox version 3 and opening it, You will see 5 options along the left side. The first option is "Open". Click open and "select a file" of the PDR1 (C7) video of the run session on the track. Then click the Home icon and return to the 5 options along the left. The second option is "Tracks". Click on that and it will open a new window that has these options along the top:
Set Current Track
Create Track
Duplicate Track
Import Track
Export Track for Sharing
Export Track to SD for use in Car
Edit Track
Remove Track
Click on Create Track. It will then open up a new "Create Track" window. You can change the name to a more recognizable track name like NCM. The window will say that the track will be created from the current recording and the lap it will use.Click on Create and it will create the track map.

You can now export that track map to the SD card that you will use in the C8. Load the formatted SD card in the PC. From the "tracks" window you will see the track that you created or multiple tracks that you have created. If you only have one, Click on the option in the "Tracks" window that says "export track to SD for use in car". that will open another window that shows the name you just changed above and the drive letter of the SD card. If you have created multiple tracks, they will all appear in the "tracks" window. Click on the one you want to copy to the SD card then click "export track to SD for use in car". Click "Export" and two files will be created on the SD card. The first is a ".map.gpx" file that the C7 will recognize and the second is a "filename.gpx" or "NCM.gpx" if you have changed it that the C8 will recognize.

I picked most of this up from "Chatting" and emailing the Corvette Concierge. They are really helpful folks. I thought I had seen some information that indicated there would be a full listing of tracks and their start/finish lines available to everyone and thus we would all be using the same s/f line so we could really compare laps. The concierge said I obviously had been smoking too many funny cigarettes and that the listing of tracks did not exist. But they were nice enough to explain the create and export function.

Presumably you can create multiple "filename.gpx" files on one SD card and then you will see all of them as saved tracks when you pick PDR and "Lap Timing" in the C8. I have not tested that yet.

thanks

bill

I am participating in One Lap Of America in two weeks, and I wanted to use that experience to help define some tracks. I was out testing this week at RPM and I couldn't figure out how to define the start/finish. I selected custom track, and circuit then a message popped up that timing would begin when the start finish was crossed and PDR recording but it didn't happen. Perhaps I need PDR running first then define the track, I have some testing to do. I have access to a vbox sport, Dual 160, and some garmin products that record to gpx. I'll do some testing but in the mornings I'll be able to do track walks, and wondering if I can do a garmin log then import it and put it on the SD card.

Track list if anyone has them already:
Memphis International Raceway
Eagles Canyon Raceway Canyon (found Eagles Canyon Main on hipodriver C7 version)
Eagles Canyon Raceway Italian Canyon
NOLA North Track - Long Course
Atlanta Motorsports Park
Lanier Speedplex Oval
Summit Point Raceway (found this listed as C7)
Gingerman (found this listed as C7)

Yep, getting the pdr to set a “custom” track is a complete pain in the ***. I managed to get it to work properly.... once. The system sucks honestly. Fun for cameras, etc., but the user interface is about as friendly as that computer from “War Games.”

I bought a Garmin.

I’ll use pdr for video/ fun.

Doing OLOA too!

I have a great selection of Garmin Virb 30s that I've used in the past ... I was hoping for a really slick integrated system. Looks like I may run both. And the computer was WOPR

Have you done OLOA before? Really looking forward to the event, its been a long year!

Nope- rookie, surprised to get off the waitlist. I figure this might be like pledging- a bit rough during, but looked back on fondly?

Best way I describe it as a bucket-list item that once you do it, you will want to sign up every year.
Its a great event because of the wonderful people that attend. You will have a blast! Looking forward to meeting up with you!

Please let us know. I had the same question after watching this video because he wasn’t clear on that part.

Custom Track Setup
Honestly it's been a while since I've done this but there is a "Learn" button that is the equivalent of the old "define finish line". Hit it and run a lap, but I can't remember if you have to do something else after. I posted the PDR2 maps I had up on www.hipodriver.com/resources.

Hi @Poor-sha - I was fiddling with some C7 map files for Road America and ABCC Full Course from this thread https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...-thread-3.html by trying to convert the C7 file to Google Earth MAPS and back to GPX using an online tool. Then, I copy the files to my SD card to plug in the C8 PDR. If it shows a map like these pictures here, does it mean that it is working and PDR is recognizing the tracks?

Thanks!

That’s nice. Great work. I hope it works. It seems so. I’m going to Road Atlanta this weekend myself.

@SPOHN - If you can find a .map.gpx file for Road Atlanta from a C7, I can try convert it and see if you can use it on track.

@SPOHN I don't think so. I think that UI is just reading the names of any files that end in .gpx. The formats are different and look to be PDR specific. This is a C7 gpx on the left and a C8 GPX on the right opened in notepad. As you can see they are pretty different.

Defiantly different by a ways. Either way it’s no big deal to learn the track during warmup.

@Poor-sha - Nice catch! If that's the case, I'll try to replicate the format from C8 PDX file! Thanks for the info!

It looks like C7 to C8 is easy, but possibly not the other way since it is missing some child nodes.

Is there someplace to download both formats? I just dropped my C8 off at the shop to get setup for the track, so I can't test.

Any idea why gm decided to make the c7 “easy to operate pdr” into this mess?

Does anyone have a PDR2 (C8 version) .gpx file for the road course at Homestead in Florida?

So GM can make the front lift auto-operate based upon gps location but they couldn't pre-load track maps to auto-load based upon gps position? AIM has been doing it for years.
