Bought the car out of state, had to get it smogged here in [insert epithet representing California]
The car failed! It's been driven what I figured would be plenty but the O2 and evap systems were both still showing as unready. Battery has not been disconnected.
I've heard some other manufacturers provide clues in how the car is doing in its readiness by how it blinks various dash lights at startup.
Are there any similar telltales in the C8? Is there any way for me to check for readiness myself before bringing it back in?

In CA, the evap can show incomplete, but not the 02's. Search emissions drive cycle and follow procedure. You do need to start up cold with AC on to put load on the system. Just get the 02's complete.

Yeah, not that many miles. Looking to get a temporary operating permit since the temp tags expired. Have a reader now which shows me status so I'll know when it's ok before taking it in.
Register it in Montana under an LLC, avoid CA and their taxes, high registration costs and general nonsense.
Good Luck
The CHP loves pulling over Cars with out of State Plates, especially during Rush Hour. If you're driving to work, you aren't a Tourist on your way to Disneyland. You have 30 Days to Register your Car if you move to CA.
Ain't no way that Commiefornia is going to miss out on all that Tax and Registration Revenue. They have a lot of Five Year Plans and Illegal Invaders to pay for.
I bought my brand new 2014 C7 out of State. When I was told I had to Smog the Car I couldn't believe it and neither could the guy at the Smog Station. (It passed Smog thank God)…
Then it had to be inspected by the DMV before I was afforded the privilege of handing over nearly $5,000 to get it Registered.

Cops in CA look for MT plates, plus the DMV has a webpage that encourages citizens to report scofflaws by entering their plate #s. If you do the out of state thing you better be able to back it up with proof of residence.
