Default Oil filter

Has anyone noticed that the replacement PF64 A/C tha you buy at AutoZone, etc is different from the factory one. It appears to be much more cheaply made and is even about 1/8 of an inch shorter. I wonder whether the one through a dealer is like the original - or not. Does anyone know?

It's GM trying to save money and making things cheaper!

I didn't buy my filter at Auto Zone. I bought it through Amazon Prime along with the oil. AC Delco Professional series PF 64. It was identical to the factory one I pulled off.

There is a pic of the difference in this thread in the C7 forum section:
https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...lter-pf64.html

I've been buying mine from Amazon and they have been identical to the ones I remove.

Another recent Forum post gives the pn's for the two different filters. the pn's differ though the "64" designation remains. I recall other threads earlier this year stating GM was phasing out the "old" 64 for the new. I suspect those still getting the old style are simply depleting stocks on-hand. I did my part pre-Covid; I bought all of the old from two local/semi-local Walmarts. I've given some to friends and, as happenstance would have it, I just installed one today.

From this pic, I’m not seeing anything that indicates the new smaller version is “cheaply made”. What is it that gives you that impression?

So which is old stock, the smaller, seemingly cheaper one, or the larger, heavier one?

I can't remember the link but I recently read somewhere online the reason why AC Delco switched over to a shorter can on the PF64 is they switched over to using new assembly machinery in their factory but the new machinery is unable to process the longer can so they shortened its' length. The quality is still there.

The owner's manual specifies the GM part number, which is 12696048. Today I just ordered from Amazon the ACDelco filter with that specific part number.

Default Amsoil filter

Anyone using AMSOIL FILTERS? I checked their Lookup Guide and they don't show a filter for the 2021 C8.
