Default Dam Squeaky Brakes

These dam squeaky brakes!
How do you get them to stop? I have tried break in procedure and even a couple of hard stops and that seems to make it go away for awhile
but the squeaking is starting to return more often and the brakes have plenty of pads left at only 4600 miles on them.
Kind of embarrassing to be driving a nice car like this to roll up and ........ SQUEEEEEEEEAAAAAK ........ LOL
Any ideas or suggestions?
Thanks!

I would say do a few hard stops to get some heat into the pads and wear off any build-up on the rotors...but you've done that. I assume you have a Z51?

Yes, I have a Z51 and usually the few hard stop trick cures it for a few days but it seems lately it's not lasting long?
At lunch I got so mad at it I sprayed some brake cleaner in each caliper before coming back to work and it seemed to go away for now?

That makes me think, for whatever reason, the pads need to be removed, cleaned, and re-lubed with a high-temp brake grease. It could be due to an excessive build-up of brake dust in there. I've seen this on previous cars with aggressive aftermarket pads, but never factory stuff.

I had the same issue at about 1000 miles on my 2014 Z51 OEM pads. Takes more that a "few hard stops." A probable cause what is occurring with easy stops at low speeds (where mine occurred) is "it's an uneven layer of pad material on the rotors that is causing slip-stick vibration." Need to do what it says in the Owner's Manual for Tracking BUT about 6 times NOT the 25 times listed as if you were Tracking. Need to find a safe place. Worked for me.

Then I switched to Low Dust Carbotech 1521 street pads and never had the issue again. Ordered those pads before my C8 arrived and installed week 1!

This is from the Owner's Manual page 152:
Brake Burnishing (GM's word everyone else calls "it bedding." IF you want to know more just google Brake Bedding!
When this procedure is performed
as instructed, it will not damage the
brakes. The brake pads will smoke
and produce an odor. (my note yep if done 25 times BUT not 6) The braking
force and pedal travel may increase.
After the procedure, the brake pads
may appear white at the rotor
contact.
Perform this procedure only on dry
pavement, in a safe manner, and in
compliance with all local and state
ordinances/laws regarding motor
vehicle operation.
Brake Burnishing Procedure
This brake burnish procedure
should only be run on vehicles with
the J55 Z51 factory equipped brake
system.
1. Apply the brakes 25 times
starting at 100 km/h (60 mph) to
50 km/h (30 mph) while
decelerating at 0.4 g. This is a
medium brake application.
Drive for at least 1 km (0.6 mi)
between applying the brakes.
This first step may be skipped
if there are more than 320 km
(200 mi) on the brake pads.
2. Apply the brakes 25 times
starting at 100 km/h (60 mph) to
25 km/h (15 mph) while
decelerating at 0.8 g. This is a
hard brake application without
activating the Antilock Brake
System (ABS). Drive for at
least 1 km (0.6 mi) between
applications. Depending on
conditions, some increase in
brake pedal travel and brake
pedal force may be
experienced.
3. Cool down: Drive at 100 km/h
(60 mph) for approximately
15 km (10 mi) without using the
brakes.
Driving and Operating 153
4. Apply the brakes 25 times from
100 km/h (60 mph) to 50 km/h
(30 mph) while decelerating at
0.4 g. This is a medium brake
application. Drive for at least
1 km (0.6 mi) between
applications.

I did that with my 2014 Z51 and it stopped all squealing like a stuck Pig on slow speed easy stops. Have not had that or any other issues with my Carbotech 1521 low dust street pads I foolishly waited 6 months to install on my 2014 Z51. But was smarter on my C8 and ordered the Carbotech pads before it came and installed that 1st week. Never a peep!

If not tracking the car change your brake pads I prefer the Carbotech 1521 pads.

Interesting comments. My C8 has 4200 miles on it. For the "first drive" of the day, the brakes squeal like crazy as I pull out of my garage and drive out of the driveway. I apply the brakes while pressing on the accelerator and that quiets them down. From that point on I have no problems for...the day! Next morning, same thing. Now I don't have a Z51 but I had the exact same issue with my C7. I took it back to the dealer and they put some copper compound on the brakes and that worked for about 18 months. One might think that for a $95K car, the brakes wouldn't squeak at all. Heck, for the base model, it shouldn't squeak either!
