On my C5 I've tried a variety of magnets to train the TPMS with a rather large horseshoe magnet the only one that worked well. I assume the C8 is the same that you use a magnet to train when you swap wheels and tires out or change a sensor with a dead battery?
Just order this. I’ve used it for a year dozens of times. Works great. Cheap.
Yes the system can relearn itself but takes to long. I swap wheels often so it’s more convenient when I need to know pressures quickly. The relearn process is in Dic options for using this tool. Your call.
Unless you're in a real hurry there is no re-learn tool needed for the C8 and no need to do the relearn in the menu system either. When installing new wheels/sensors or rotating the old ones simply drive the car normally for a few miles after installation. It will learn the new sensors - or the new position of the old ones - all by itself. Same goes for having the battery disconnected.

The auto-learning process on the C8 takes way too long if you change between the wheel sets often so I bought the above tool as well. It works great and I don't have to wait for the TPMS to be functional.
