It’s clear in the manual that you are supposed to remove the washers between the body and the shocks when doing a track alignment. What is the reason for that? Does it change something in the camber or toe curve, or is it just to help be able to get to the recommended static setting, or something else? THX
It increases the maximum camber you can attain. With the washers, you likely can't hit the recommended track alignment specs listed in GM's track prep document.
I have the front lift so the front ride height is not adjustable. I'm actually not sure if he changed the rear, though; will ask. My C8 was the first he had done and I do know it took a few hours to get it sorted. He's been doing my alignments, tires, etc.. forever and has worked with various race teams so I trust him implicitly.
We did the GM prescribed specs so maybe we're at the tail end of the adjustment with the washers in place. I do think it would like more camber judging by the shoulder wear so will find out the next time it's on the rack.
Removing the washers makes it easier. Probably it.
A clarification - the track spec does not -remove- the washers. It -moves- the washer from between control arm/chassis to between head of bolt and control arm.
My alignment guy was able to get me to the track spec without removing the washers. -3 up front, -2.6 in the rear.
Same for me with '21 Z51 w/lift. He said he could get up to -3.1 on the front and -2.6 on the rear without moving the washers. I went with -2.5 and -2.1 for first track event. Nice to know I can move it around without dealing with the washers.
