Default Missed shift

Was out yesterday in my new to me C8. I’ve had the car about a week and had it in manual mode the first time. I missed hitting the paddle thinking I was in auto. Went over redline and engine cut power. I am hoping this is a safeguard built into the car.
I have put in a couple hundred miles since then and no issues.
Anyway not sure if any of you have done this and if you have any input. Or am I the only idiot here? Lol

You hit the rev-limiter. It's there to protect the engine; no damage done.

Yes, it was the rev-limiter. However, the rev-limiter cuts you off at the actual redline of 6500 rpm. If your car is under 500 miles you should be sticking to the redline shown on the tach of 4500 rpm. So yes, there was potential harm done.

Car has right at 5k. When it shut the power down I think it allowed the engine to rev higher than 6500, not by much.

That's what it's there for. You're fine. Some people bang off the limiter rather than shift in autocross when there is a shift that would be at the end of a straight. It's nothing to worry about at all

Redline, after the break-in period, is 6600 RPM - not 6500.
