I'd like to tune the TCM/ ECU for a lighter flywheel. Shouldn't be an issue when the AFM is deleted. I know how it may feel in stop and go traffic/ parking lots ( which I hardly see), at least that's how my GTR was with one. At the same time it should be a little less tamed being a V8 which has more rotational mass to aid in balancing.

I don't know much about tuning for higher performance. But what features of the Transmission Control Module (TCM) would be tuned? Shift points? Which implies reliance on the Automatic Shift Mode. Anything else? Clutch control? I saw someone mention launch control RPM. Is that controlled by the TCM or the ECM?

I recently received an email from HP Tuners with their announcement (It is NOT about the C8 TCM), but some of the LS folks might be excited:

I just wished we could get some information about what is taking time to process for being able to tune the TCM in relation to the ECU. I haven't exactly read over the information but my understanding is they did a hardware crack on the ecu for being able to tune it. That might be entirely wrong but if that is the case I was curious why the TCM can't be done the same way or where they are in the process with it. I am buying a C8 base entirely on the reasoning of building it and being able to tune and not having the TCM tuning capabilities yet sucks. I hope they get it soon but it makes me wonder how they are going to be for the z06 or zr1 later on if the base is still taking this much time if it's even possible.

It will be coming. The TCM is highly complex also. HP has their hands full with many products. Could be supply demands or something they didn’t account for during testing. So many factors. It’s better not to keep giving false hope and wait from a business perspective. But I wouldn’t let that stop your plans. The fact we’re in the ECU is amazing huge for everyone.

Bummer. Getting ready to do a cam/heads/tune build but I really, really want to be able to see 7000rpm in all drive modes. I hope somebody figures this out soon. The C9 might be out before the C8 tuning gets figured out.

My twin turbo C8 will likely be amongst the first cars to get a HP tuner software update for the TCM that was/is expected this month. I don't know if this will enable full TCM tunning, or just address TCM behavior for high torque upshifts. @DOUG @ ECS probably knows more, and may be able to share more.

I am getting a clutch boost controller installed this Wednesday along with some additional calibration. Still no full TCM tunning yet from HP Tuners. But clutch pressure is one of key factors in shift performance/feel and holding higher power with stock clutches. I would post here with updates later in the week.

So the newer software updates for the tcm do in fact have some calibration changes you can do to help shifts? What if the transmission was built with upgraded clutches what could potential hp be that it hold for any longevity if so?

Cant help yourself. I understand it. Money better spent upgrading to the next model rather than waste money on no return modifications

Good stuff, I'm really interested in hearing your thoughts on how the 'tranny controller' shifts in regular driving and holds all the extra turbo torque you're putting down when you're under WOT/boost.
It's not a TCU unlock yet but if it gets the job done nicely then I wont tell noone..
