I am struggling with replacing rotors on my 2023 non Z51. I finally managed to get the dang bolts off the back of the rear calipers and have the parking brake off but I cannot get the piston in the parking brake to fully retract. I have a caliper tool to push the piston back but it won't budge. I'm hoping unplugging it will help but I cannot figure out how to unplug the dang thing and I don't want to damage the wiring. Any tips on pulling the plug on the parking brake or other tricks to get that piston retracted?
The rotors are the exact same thickness as stock so that isn't the issue.
So, before doing a brake job you should have disconnected the battery. However, if you were planning to remove the parking brake, you must, while the battery is still connected, fully retract the parking brake caliper piston by putting it in the Parking Brake Service Model. Attached is the instruction from the Service Manual.
You may have to complete the rotor/pad replacement for the main calipers before you can reconnect the battery to retract the parking brake caliper piston. If you connect the battery with main calipers removed, they may activate and you will have bigger mess.
