I'm assuming that if you complete an update and you have a modified tune, (HPtuners), You should rewrite tune after update, Since you are unable to actually read tune to see
if it changed.

An update is the same as flashing a new program into whatever modules are affected. Contact HPTuners and ask them what you need to do.
Is there a way to look at update history, Looked all over menu, damn if I can find it.
What year do you have. There is for my 2021. From the main menu on the infotainment display, select Settings. Under Settings, select System. Under System select About. The next menu shows the list of updates. I can click each one it shows what the update was all about.
Thanks I did that Shows, current software and no history, I have a 2023 Z51, Hard to believe there has been no updates.
Did you buy it new? Mine will not initiate an install unless I give it permission.
I have it set to download updates in the background, and also t allow downloads via WiFi when possible. This is just to download the updated package. But it will not install the update without permission each time.
Is the setting for download updates in backround in the menu somewhere? My shop where I keep it parked has wifi
I think it is under preferences. But its should only download via WiFi if you have allowed it to connect to that specific network. I have mine set up to connect to the WiFi in my garage. But I do not think it will connect to any other WiFi. But...if you have it set to download in the background...it will still download an update via the built in 4G connection.
even so, it should not installed (which is your main concern) without your permission. Of course, dealers can also cause new updates to be installed.
But, I think there might be additional issues. I know nothing about what exactly is updated or changes when you have mods done by tuners. But I assume from your original question that its software in one or more of the modules. It occurs to me when I do a software install on my laptop, the built-in automated installer first checks to see what software version(s) are already installed. I can only speculate that when the car executes a software installation, it also will first check the software versions in the modules. From reading the service manual, there is also more that just software versions. There are special ID codes that indicate its for this specific VIN and original options. When a dealer installs a new module, there are instruction for how to make compatible with the specific vehicle. I'm not sure what would happen if the automated installer for an OTA update encounters modified software in one of the modules. The modules exchange data and interact with each other and assume certain behavior from each other. Some updates (speculation) might require modules to be updated at the same time to preserve proper interaction. I do think you need to ask the folks that made the mod about that. And I do agree you probably want to avoid allowing any OTA updates.

Just to clarify my nomenclature, download and install are two different steps. Download loads the update package into the car, and than can happen via the 4G connection or the WiFi connection if it connects. But its not installed. Install is not attempted until the download is complete, and on my 2021 at least, the install step cannot proceed without my permission.
Download can happen without my permission if I have enabled download in the background, which I have. But it won't install automatically. If download in background is disabled, it will notify me that an update is ready for download.
This is aside really from the core of this discussion, but GM is operating on two levels. They want the consumer to be involved up to a point. But, make no mistake about it. They can reach out and tag any car they want at any time and without owner knowledge or participation. GM is a defense contractor and stuff like this is easy peasy.
