I don't think that GM ever confirmed the base price was for the first year only, that, like the no profit under 80k was all rumor and speculation. Nothing I saw in the 2021 pricing announcement said they were keeping it low due to Covid19 or that suggested that wasn't part of the original plan. If I missed it, my apologies, but I think we heard so much speculation from online "news" sources that just copy each other and use that as substantiation that it became true in a lot of people's heads without anything real from GM.
That said, it seems likely that the C8 Z06 will have a twin turbo dohc V8 that isn't based on the LT1 like the LT4 and 5 were, so it's not unreasonable that the price increase over a base C8 might be larger than previous generations. At the same time, rumors suggest there will be several tiers of higher performance C8 models, and GM knows that to keep the volume they want, they can't get too crazy with the price, especially if they are having a ZR1 and Zora to slot above Z06 as well.
I believe the Z06 is going to be naturally aspirated, dual overhead cam, with a flat plane crank. I speculate the ZR1 will get a twin turbo variant of that engine.

That's what the leak, all the rumors and the speculations suggest.
It only makes sense. This is GM's LAST CHANCE at doing this. After this, there's no more opportunity.

It has to happen. All we can do is pray!!
The legit leak is a cad of a twin turbo dohc V8. The spec sheet leak isn't a real GM document. Rumors and speculation have ran with the fraudulent document that doesn't even get simple things correct. Show me the cad of an na dohc V8 and I will change my mind. I do think the Z06 may get a center exhaust and that will have changed from the cad image. It won't be long and people can place orders for '22 Corvette and they better have announced the Z06 by then or we have another year to wait just for a reveal.
New to Corvette so maybe a dumb question, but in the past was there a limited number of Z06 they make be per year to make them special? Said another way did dealers have a specific allocation for Z06 or was it all lumped into one number where they get so many Corvettes in a given year regardless if they were all Stingrays or all Z06?
I’m willing to bet if there are a lot of orders for the Z06 they will build the heck out of them. The only problem would be lack of parts.
Has anyone tried to get on a wait list for the Z06? I spoke with 2 dealers, 1 said they had a list and wanted $1000 deposit (refundable until order is made) and $20K over sticker was the sales price. The other said they did not have a list, but would not be charging over MSRP. The salesman assured me he would give me a call and get me to the top of the list once they had one which would be great, but highly doubt that ever happens. Just curious as to what others have been told.

Both McMulkin and Criswell are placing customers on a "waiting list"..... they obviously cannot take an "order" for a car that has not been offered, but do this as a courtesy, and take a refundable deposit to keep tire kickers from mucking things up..... neither of these dealers add ADM, or ridiculous 'fees"....
However, I suspect that first years production is pretty much spoken for..... we just don't know why "first year" actually means.... however, if you are serious about buying a new one, the ship has pretty much left the dock...

Criswell, at least expects that 30-40% of those on his list are tire kickers or have deposits elsewhere as Mr Furman stated to me that he believes about that many people will drop off his Z06 list. FWIW.
Last I heard he stopped taking down names too, not sure if true. Even having put my name down June of last year I’m guessing unless half drop out, I’ll be a second year delivery but we will see.

Just put a deposit down with Criswell! Salesman thought I might make the end of the first production year, although I know that there are way too many variables for that to be more than a guess. Still amped up about it though!

He told me that too, and then three years later he said no one dropped, that is when I knew I could not trust what he says. With him you don't put any money down, which sounds great, but in my experience it was worth exactly what I paid for it. It is my guess that he has his favorites who he takes care of, and if you are not one of those, they can step in line ahead of you, and you get fed some BS. I have bought from many corvette dealers over the years, and by far the best is Sean McCann and Matt Blundo at Stingray Chevrolet. I almost don't want to tell people that since I dont want more competition for their allocations, but they deserve to be called out.
The jokes going to be on us if the zr1 / Zora, top of the line is $169k
Why would that be the case? I can fully see a1000 hp limited run car line a zora be that price. If the rumors are true loaded with all that tech and if the performance is to be believed that’s a steal compared to other hyper cars out there.

Because its basically a running joke on these forums. $169k was the “confirmed” starting price of the C8 according to some “insider” poster... because everyone knows a mid engined Corvette would be big bucks. We all know how that worked out.
But yes, I think that most agree a halo C8 with 1000+ HP via a twin turbo FPC with hybrid technology could definitely be in that ballpark. Still doesn’t validate that ridiculous prediction.
