Looks like they didn't get it done. The targeted strike will begin. So much for my optimism. Bowling Green isn't one of them. It remains to be seen how Corvette production may be affected.

Corvette is probably GM's highest profit margin vehicle right now. It certainly sells the fastest and they're certainly not cheap by high production vehicle standards. Makes me wonder why the UAW would not shut it down.

Corvette is still relatively low production compared to trucks and SUV'S. It's high on OUR priority list but low on hitting GM where it really hurts.

I agree, I only emphasized high production relative to the price. I'm thinking the average or median build price is now around $85k or more.

I'm no fan of GM's current management but this is truly insane. The UAW is out of their minds. They refused a 20% wage increase and they demand a 46% raise, to only work 32 hours but get paid for 40, multiple bonuses, no compensation tiers (so experienced workers don't get rewarded?), enhanced vacations, retirements, cost of living, etc. Many of these workers have jobs that don't require degrees. The UAW feels entitled to these things because some of the automakers have had good earnings this year. What happens if they lose money in the coming year(s)? Will the UAW give back some of the concessions/raises back to help out? Of course not.
The average UAW salary is way over what my wife works as a school teacher. She has worked nearly 25 years at her job and only makes a little over $60K/year. Her raises are around 3% per year. She doesn't get bonuses and her job requires a 4 year degree.
I really wish people were more thankful for the very good jobs they have rather than feel entitled to so much more. In my opinion, if they want more, then they should find a job better suited for their demands or go start their own business and hope they don't have employees that demand 46% raises, multiple bonuses, 32 hour work weeks... or else.
SMH.

Amen! Well said. And I agree teachers are probably the most underpaid professionals in today's society. They are the ones who truly DESERVE more. Not these arrogant entitled union workers who rarely have a job that requires much thought or effort at all. The whole basis for the UAW asking for a 40% raise was because one of the CEO's got a 40% raise a few years ago. That is terrible thinking of the UAW to say that because one person (who has a very high degree and runs an entire company and has a skill set which is rare) that means that every other person who puts a widget on in an assembly line whose position could be replaced the next day if they quit deserves just as much of a raise. Complete BS!

This mindset is the reason the auto industry has lost 85% of their jobs since 1970s. These greedy pigs are negotiating themselves right out of a job. The bosses don't care, they're the ones making out on these deals, the rank-n-file are just pawns.

While I agree with that, it's not on the teachers. I blame the education department. Once schools lost local control, the curriculum became less student focused and more slanted towards peoples political pet-projects.

This is exactly correct. The stories I hear... and we are in Texas. I can't imagine being in a blue state. We actually have excellent teachers in our schools. It's the system they have to work under at this point.

Unions demanding over 40% pay increases. They also want 5 days pay for only working 4.
Gee, what corporation would have a problem with that.
Seriously, what kind of nonsense is this?
Carbon copy of what I watched the steel workers union do in Western PA years ago and we all know how that worked out for them.
These monkeys just don't get it.

The thing is I'm willing to bet if GM upped the pay increase to 25-30% and swapped tiers to 90 days, the UAW would forget about the 32 hour work week. Their initial requests were and are absurd and truly unfeasible to a profitable corporation. However, when you start high, you hope to meet somewhere in the middle.
