Default How to remove etched water spots from paint?

Are there any products out there that will remove etched water spots from paint that I can successfully use by hand?

I clay barred the car then used Klasse, but that was not good enough to make a dent.

You will need some scratch or swirl remover and maybe follow it with a polish or glaze. Then throw on some wax or sealant for protection.

Without actually seeing them it is tough but my answer would be NO. Etched water spots for the most part need a good buffing. I own my own detail shop and sometimes we have had to to do 3 buffer passes to get the paint in decent condition.

Some we can get rid of in one pass, but always with a Porter Cable/Flex. These can be difficult to impossible to remove by hand.

Chemical Guys and Duragloss offer a waterspot removing product that can help with recent spotting. A paint cleansing lotion like Klasse AIO or Pinnacle Paintwork Lotion can also chemical try to repair. If they have etched the surface then polishing, preferably by machine, is likely needed and in some cases even wet-sanding.

They've gone beyond just the surface. There when I got the car. I tried some Meguiar's Ultimate Compound by hand and it helped, but I couldn't get all the spots out. I'm giving up and just going to have to find a reputable detailer around here that won't charge me and arm and a leg. He can get the swirls & crap out too & the car will finally look like new again.

consider a random orbital buffer and some polishes, you can do it and have the tools to do it again and again when wanted or needed. Likely similar cost to just one professional detailing session.

What buffers do you recommend? I'm afraid of screwing up the paint. No money for a repaint of the car.

When i acquired my motor truck It had etchings all over the hood, after some combinations i was finally adept to accomplish a 95 per hundred etch free surface with surbuf pads and 3M wiping compound.

^ That's good stuff. Glad to hear it worked for you. Porter Cable makes a really nice machine that will last for years and I highly recommend it. Just be careful and take your time with machines and you'd be amazed at what you can achieve!

Thanks. I am afraid to mess up my paint if I try a buffer myself.

You will do fine, as long as you don't literally throw the buffer at the car. Consider a Random Orbital buffer, some pads, and polishes. It will likely cost less than 1 good detail. If you need help call us or stop by our site at www.autogeek.net , we even offer video's to show you that you can do it.

Thanks, I'll look into it when I'm ready to make the buy.

Also, for what you'll pay a good detailer, you can get a reasonably priced machine (PC 7424 or Flex) and do it yourself.

Follow the Adams Videos and especially Autogeek.net videos.

Get yourself over to Harbor Freight - they have a DA Buffer for $50 and its amazing - I use it all the time and 1/3 the price of a Porter Cable Buffer.

Get yourself a nice 6 inch hook & loop polishing pad, and Meguiars M205 Mirror Glaze Ultra Finishing Polish and work that into your paint on a low speed - this will take all of your holes away. Once done, give it a nice wax (again you can get a 6 inch waxing pad for applying the wax and 6 inch lambs wool pad for the wax removal) and give it a nice waxing to make her really shine...
