okay, i got everything on now, but it wont start!!!! i gots fuel and i gots fire. but i think im getting way too much fuel. 85 corvette (l98) took the tpi off and put an edelbrock performer, holley 600, holley electric fuel pump (red one), and vac advance h.e.i. everything brand new. i put the distributor in the same spot (same rotor position)as the old computer controlled unit. even lined it up at tdc according to the stock damper today. but it seems my carb was dumping massive amounts of fuel into the intake during cranking. i thought maybe i need some type of fuel return system so i put a tee on the supply line and ran a line into the stock fuel return system. i have the fuel pump wired to switched 12v from the old pump connector, so it comes on when you turn the key on. got a couple of fireballs from the carb, too. not that cool to see when its happening to your own ride! anybody have any thoughts!!!!!!! anybody, anybody?
Just a thought, but doesn't the red pump need a regulator?
You can do an easy test: Disconnect the wire to the pump and crank the car. It should start on the fuel in the carb and run for 5 seconds or so. If it does, your pump is putting out to much pressure flooding the carb.
If it doesn't start doing this, look at timing. Are you sure you got it at TDC on cyl #1 and not #6?
Take the drivers side valvecover off, and rotate the crank by hand. Watch the valves.of #1. If they move close to TDC, it's on the wrong stroke. Rotate crank 360 degrees. Now it's at #1 TDC and you can install the HEI.
if your making fire *****, its all timing. it only takes the distributor to be off a little bit to make that happen. recheck again and again. try moving it too.(mabey you need to adv. or ret. it.)
