1. put a valve on the base circle,
2. then remove the rocker and put some black sharpie on the top of the valve,
3. then put the rocker back on an roll the rocker tip.
Is it this easy?
I did this and it looks like my 7.250 are too short and I get a better witness mark with 7.450 length, using a trick flow adjustable push rod tool.
I have Hyd-Roller lifters, Comp Cams 1.6 RR's, AFR 210's/68 CC, and a .005 in the hole deck
Based on this method, the push rods shuold be 7.500 inch in length
Previosuly I had 7.250 length pushrods but the witness mark for the short PR's barely reaches teh center of the valve.
With teh 7.500 length the roller tip witness mark looks to be making a mark of equal travel distance on both sides of center.

That sounds like what you should be looking for. Most of the cam grinders address push rod checking in their catalogs, also. Check out, www.compcams.com for one.
