Choices and mandates
I wish I had more progress to report on, especially in the form of grins and dyno reports but that is not the case.
Meanwhile I am learning patience so what ends well is what matters most. There was a problem at the shop when their dyno went down. That created a bit of a backlog but the biggest problem has been the time it is taking to produce the heads. In the meanwhile there are some areas that have been improved upon and most notable is the flywheel / clutch plate balancing that was quite a bit off from the factory. I had a 12 inch system put together and the parts that would normally go with a 496 are not set up for internal balancing like my motor is. Consequently some holes got drilled in the outer ring of the flywheel and then some weight got welded on the flywheel to make that right on.
There was another problem with the coating on the bearings and they were returned but are expected back this week. Brodix hopes to ship the heads by the end of next week and hopefully that will be the last of any outside delays.
I switched to the 4 inch spirals recommended by Mark so I wont have to worry about anybody sneaking off with my car.
I am limited on tire size by KO repos but I will probably try some corresponding size DR'S just to get started in the right direction for traction.BTW I made a mistake on the compression ratio I told you guys. I said it was going to be 10.8 but I was wrong and it is 10.4. Sorry about that and I remember some concern voiced over that. Also I did not get to cut the corner on cost with my existing chrome valve covers as the builder said chrome is not good for heat. It is his call and it is his expertise I am paying for. I guess I will be selling those with the rest of the 427 that I have in the car now. To bad I cannot find my original ones along with a few other original parts that I tossed out over the last 28 years that I have had the car.
There are some things I would like to do suspension and brake wise for total performance but I need to put the reign on the costs until I see what the bottom line is to finish what I have started.
Once again thanks to all of you for all the input. I have been reading some of your projects but I am hardly qualified to do any more than read on this forum. Without your help I probably would of gone some other route and ended up like I did with my bike that has so far eaten three motors in the last ten months.
