Default Different headers needed or not

I have an 80 with Hooker headers. I've been following Corvette Fever's build-up of a standard small block (like mine) that's supposed to match or surpass current stock C5 engines for torque/HP, mileage and emissions when all modifications are complete. One of the changes they made was from stock SBC heads to Vector heads (and intake). If I make this change, will my current headers bolt up to the Vector heads?
Thanks
MW

Was that Victor heads by chance? Anyway when your buying aftermarket heads 90% of them are the standard 23 degree with stock exhaust ports. Edelbrock victor heads will mate up to stock headers. Although I would suggest the bigger 1 3/4 primary size because the heads have bigger exhaust ports.

It was Chevy's Vector heads (apparently a design originally created for truck motors, and found to be a power producing design). I should check and see if Edelbrock makes aluminum versions of Chevy's cast iron Vector heads. (Can you tell I'm not terribly familiar with them?)
Just FYI... IIRC the article indicates the old motor was making lots more power than the stock C5 motor after all the mods; they're still waiting to see about the mileage and emissions issues.

Do you mean Vortec heads, these were originally intended for truck applications, but have become popular with some due to their better than average flow, especially for a procuction cast iron head.

Where the intake runners meet the manifold"the inlet of the intake manifold" on the new Vortec manifold from S/D is the same diameter of the stock L98 runners. Now I have a question about the chain only being as strong as it's weakest link!
How are they saying they get 375 HP out of a 350 with a Hot Cam and unported heads or manifold with stock runners I don't know :D

He he he he.....

C'mon..... no one would exaggerate would they? I haven't been keeping up with the article but I know lots of folks claim pretty god numbers with them out of the box.

I saw a Mud racing truck engine the other day in for it's winter freshening. I guess some class rules limit them to Vortecs, but anyway it was an aluminum rod, mega comp, roller cammed 350 with heavily ported Vortecs and a jesel rocker setup. They said it made 676 Hp last year on the dyno at 7100 rpm!

That's pretty impressive. Must be some real potential there!

I remember speaking to a prominent builder who had helped Car Craft (it seems like) work on a big block to compete in one of those pump gas big/small block shootouts and then they were going to put them in cars and run them. They reported it made 540 or so HP but when they put it in the car it was a stone. He didn't build it, but they used his car and wanted him to tune it and make it run. He said it must have been making more like 400 hp at best and ran 13's. His car normally ran deep 10's. They never reported numbers at the track, they used QTR. JR to estimate what it SHOULD have
run. Gotta love it!

Your headers will be fine with any stock type casting. You only have to use different headers if the heads say spread exhaust ports.

Quote: They said it made 676 Hp last year on the dyno at 7100 rpm!

I would doubt that amount of hp. Largely just based on the low rpm and Vortec heads

I work around sprint cars limited to less than 360 cubic inches. That's the amount of hp a typical car makes at 7700 and I know that you can't put 2.15 to 2.20 intake valves in a Vortec head.

this motor of mine had a 9000 rpm shift point with 355 ci 13.8 cr alky injected The headers are 2 1/8 headmans

Well, it looks like I've accomplished two things: 1) I've gotten my header question answered and 2) I've gotten a lot of good info from knowledgeable insiders regarding what I can expect (real world) from this build-up. I figured only Hot Rod or Car Craft had that much BS factored into their HP/TQ ratings. I assumed a Corvette Fever build-up would have more credible results. You guys saved me a ton of time, money and aggravation; I wish I had listend to the board's advice when I asked about Jacobs' Ignition stuff :bb
