638 Stroker ?
Sup guys, for 2010-2011 I plan on getting a 638 CID block. I don't know which heads or camshaft can be put on the 638 block, I'm looking for some answers because it will be my first build

Also, what do you think of this block ? (it'll be a dart big m competition block - all upgrades checked)

Street/strip. It will be in my summer car. A daily driver, so it cannot be TOO hardcore, and anything over 600-800 hp wouldnt be streetable i think.. what do you think ?
I was thinking about spending $10,000 to $13,000 for a complete engine. Is this enough ?
I was planning to have Two 4-barrel carb, and also, do you know of a Manual Transmission that can be put on it ?

The whole problem with a pro street build on that magnitude is everything aft of the motor to handle the TQ.
Look at transzilla trannies on the net. I only have mid 600 hp and it takes thousands of rear end mods

Huge difference between 600 and 800 HP both in performance and what it will cost to handle the associated torque.
For sure I would go with the Dart Pro one heads....... 335 would be pretty peppy with that much displacement but you could go bigger
As long as you plan to stay under 1000 HP IMO the forged scat crank and H beam rods will work just fine.... no need to spend thousands of dollars on crank and rods if you stay with real street HP numbers.
However I would get the good Milodon oil pan.... don't remember the model # but it cost about $475 and is worth it.
I would call Bullet Cams and tell them what you want your car to do and let them make you one. Most guys going for big numbers go with solid rollers and for me personally with all hassles with flat tappet cams these days I would definitely pass on one of those.
The latest Vic single planes allow for custom CNC work..... maybe call RM and see what they say about the ones they have. You tell them what your heads are and then they take it from there.
Tranny and clutch will not be cheap....... TKO 600 will last for awhile but you would be better to call RPM and see what they can offer you.
Then there is the rear end issues......... lots of money if you want to do more than just burn rubber.

The trick will be trying to NOT make 800 hp with 638". We did a very mild one for a buddy that made 875-880 or so on pump gas. He picked all the parts and it really needed a LOT more head and a LOT more intake and cam to really fly. But it idled sweet and was a great street setup.

Cr4zYH3aD The cost of the engine is determined by how fast you want to go. A Cost of 13,000.00 would be on the lower side. As mentioned above the mod on the engine is only the beginning, more power effects the fuel system, transmission, drive line, differential and the ability to put that power to the ground. Good luck to you on your project.

The Big M comes in short deck and tall deck versions. A 632/638 will be a tall deck and they are a little tricky to make everything fit right. Headers, left side firewall and hood clearance is tough...but it CAN be done. Do a search on Pef427 here on the Forum. He has a tall deck 598" in his '68.
Ck out Snowmans C-3 in the C3 Tech section. I built a pump gas 555" for him that made 850 HP in serious street mode and when detuned with hyd roller cam, little intake and small carb it still made 780+! Very streetable with A/C, PS and PB.
Plus the short decks fit a LOT easier!

Thanks very much for the leads.........I'll go and look at those threads right now.
The small block/big block debate I was having is over........the big block won.
The crate engine/custom builder engine debate I was having is also over as well.....the custom builder won.
Now it is the "what kind of engine do I really want" debate......a smaller cube 7,500 rpm big block or a big *****' cube 5,800 rpm big block.........
