eek  time to do some testing! that car should be in the 230rwhp range ive done 3-4 of those late 86 cars and thats where they land. i might have to give up on the portable dyno idea...insurance costs are ridiculous and gettin "clean" power isnt as easy as i thought it would be. anyone know of any jobs for an unemployed dyno owner :(

Re: (1985z51)
Hey thanks guys.
I just ordered a set of injectors and I'm going to have a new chip made and check that timing hopefully this weekend, then it's back to the dyno.
I so glad we found out what we did before major damage could of occurred.
I'm sorry to hear about you giving up on the portable dyno idea, I hope you can work something out.
"give up" is not what i was thinkin....step back and regroup is what i should have said. the problem i run into is that the dyno needs 30 amp/110 volt power...most places i check on only have 15-25 amps...ive already ruined a control panel by not having enough power! thats another reason dynojets are more popular..they only need enough power to run the computer...i havent given up yet :) just need to take care of the immediate needs(food and shelter) :D
more dyno experiences..yesterday i ran a 65 pontiac 2+2,4400 lbs of fun! it ran a little lean so i watched this morning while he rejetted the tri-power...thank god for fuel injection! ran it this afternoon..picked up 14 rwhp..it last ran 14 flat at 99.7 mph, cant wait to see how it does now! :) i love doin this..just wish i could figure out how to make money with it! :D

Re: (1985z51)
Can't wait to install my new injectors, new chip and play around with the timing, probably next tuesday and then it's off to the Dyno. I hope to pick up a few ponies and will post my results.
I wish you were close by me, I'd be a regular customer! :)
i wish you were too! im not greedy but could use the bux :D have you installed the injectors yet? make sure before you go this time that all the obvious problems are solved..timing and fuel..as best you can,no sense wasting dyno time. its by far the most fun tool i own...just wish i could keep it busier..course i just did a neighbor check here on the forum...theres almost 250 members within a hundred mile radius and yet the only ones ive run are owned by friends. no one and i mean no one can do a better job at a better price the i can..its the cheapest horsepower you can buy,you already own all the parts! to this day i havent found a single car that i wasnt able to find something that made a marked improvement..the least amount was 14 rwhp! where else can you buy can you get 20+ flywheel horsepower for $50-75? :)
had a full day on the dyno....finally! two mustangs and a 71 SS 454 chevelle...342rwhp corrected! no wonder those things are so much fun! the 86 mustang is my "house" car..we picked up an additional 6 rwhp tonite...cutback plugs and fresh wires...imagine that! the 87 mustang has the engine that the 86 had last year..took it tonite from 235rwhp to 248rwhp..again,timing,fuel pressure, and a larger cone-type airfilter. some things that didnt work surprised me..the corrugated air inlet before the throttle body is better than a mandrel bent pipe...ran the same type test on both cars, results were the same...anyone have any ideas why that is? i guess it just goes to show that maybe those engineers in detroit arent so dumb after all :D preparation=performance :)
i guess its time for a taste of humble pie..just got a report on the 87 mustang..hes at a test and tune tonite..car picked up 3mph at the 1/8 mile and thats all it gained in the 1/4....i expected a little more than that! im thinkin a fuel delivery problem..any ideas?
the 3mph he gained in the 1/8 is the same 3mph he gained in the 1/4..i would have expected the mph in the 1/4 to be at least 4 and a half to 5mph..i cant sleep, this is gettin on my nerves! this is the first time ive had a car that improved on the dyno and just didnt prove our gain at the track :(
Southern Michigan, huh? As soon as I get my vacum leak fixed expect a red 84 cross-fire at your door! I will be getting in touch with you about directions shortly. I need to sort out my full-throttle fuel curve. I will try and bring Terry82 with me too. I think it would be great fun to run our cars on the dyno. I would be way happy to see 250+ rwhp, but I am betting I am not there yet. Probably 225-230 until I get the bigger injectors in place. Do you run the dyno on Saturdays?
the weather conditions were very similar...75 degrees and relatively dry...i think the difference is that my test lasted 9 seconds and he runs 13+ seconds and 103 mph in the 1/4,it almost has to have a fuel delivery problem. remember on the dyno the car is static..maybe the fuel pump cant maintain line pressure...we need to hook up a gauge and see if the fuel pressure falls off during a run...thanks for the input :)
Is there a dyno shop close to livonia, mi. Within 20 miles. I have only a 350 trans and I do not like having to drive it a long way on the freeway. How much do you think it would cost for an hour on the dyno.
Thanks
there are plenty in the detroit metro area...none that i have any experience with. i finally found a car today that i didnt want to try and run on the dyno. low 10's at 135....no driveshaft loop..no roll cage...no safety equipment at all..very low budget car and very powerful! driving down the road,no one would give this car a second look, til the hammer is thrown! :)
the maintenance is just like any other industrial machine..keep it lubed and make sure nothins rubbin anywhere. when im busy im havin as much fun as a man should be allowed...when i havent had anyone run in a week,im bored to tears. my dyno is a mustang md250,its an eddy-current absorber, ive done about 70-75 runs this summer without too many problems. if nothing else ive gotten a college education on engine/driveline performance...there hasnt been a car yet that i didnt learn something from. the future of the dyno is cloudy..it needs to make money..but im sure i'll own it for a long time. :)
just finished runnin an 02 chevy 2500hd....i put a power programmer in it..went from 223rwhp to 255rwhp! the power is a little too high up for daily driving but its there when he needs it. thats about $10 a rwhp..CHEAP :)
