I love 4 speeds, but if you like to drag race an automatic is the way to go.
Less breakage, a properly set up auto car will run faster than a stick car.
Because you can launch so much better with a automatic.
So you 4 speed guys don't hate me for switching.

Glenn:
I would have to agree with Jim and most of the others on here. I dropped my 454 in at the beginning of spring and had the option to go the TH400 route. I chose to keep my car a 4 speed car, I don't regret my choice.

Remember that you lose more power through an automatic than you do through a standard transmission. Let me just say this...running my car with a 4 speed and 4.11 gears is an absolute BLAST down the 1/4 mile.

I was running my car down at the track and when I launched and started going through the gears, my buddy told me the announcer yelled "there goes that shifting Stingray!" :D

I would also like to share a first hand experience. My buddy had a 1980 Camaro with a 454, TH400, 4200 stall, 4.11 gears the car ran a best of 11.66. He took me for a ride before I had the 454 in my car. I was very impressed with the shear power of it. I finally got my 454 straightened around and ran a best of 12.40 with it. The difference between the two cars was night and day. The Camaro was faster....but my car just feels so much stronger and more responsive. Just by the seat of the pants feel, you'd have sworn that my car was faster. Not to mention how much fun I have kicking the clutch in while I'm banging through the gears.

I almost went to the dark side(automatics) but thanks to people like Jim(427Hotrod) and Mark(ML67) I stuck with a manual and I am thoroughly happy that I did.

If you guys want the ultimate in a manual trans, the G-Force clutch assisted 5-speed is the way to go. It will handle at least 1200hp and can be driven on the street. I can't wait to try it at the strip.
Steve
Where could I get this kind of transmission. Also would it fit into Trans Am and a Corvette, C4 ofcourse.

You can get the transmission at www.gforcetransmissions.com . Ask for Mike Long. He is a great guy to talk to and extremely knowledgeable.
