summit sells some heat wrap w.clamps works great.
Or get a mini starter thats clockable...you can even have the solenoid upside down no more problems.
They sell the metal heat shields not sure I like em but they do the trick.

How about your timing? What's it set at? If it's too far advanced you'll have the exact problem you are experiencing. Run until it's hot and doesn't want to crank and rotate your distributor a bit and see if that cures it. Good luck 👍
