Default FI - Plenum Size BBC

Can anyone who has a FI setup on a big block post the dimensions of their plenum? I'm experimenting with a FI setup. I know the plenum size will be affected by the engine setup and the design of the manifold/runners, I'm just looking for a starting point to start playing :chevy

Isn't there anyone with a fuel injection setup on a Big Block? :(

The only big block injection that I am aware of is the pure racing type such as Hilborn or Crower styles requiring special fuel pumps, except the new GM ram jet 502`S injection. The racing stuff could be used on the street with careful installation and maintance. :)

This very clean BBC 69 camaro was recently for sale on ebay with a blown and injected aluminum 540, using a victor jr. intake -- so "plenum size is similar to a carb system" -- quote from the ad is below.
Gerry

"1969 Camaro RS/SS Started as a small block car. I purchased the car as a ZL-1 clone. I changed the car to a modern blown-EFI overdrive trans Pro Touring style car. Currently has a Wayne Due front end with C4 Vette front suspension and Bilstein coil overs. All suspension and subframe pieces have been powder coated. Front brakes are powder coated Corvette Grand Sport calipers with 13" Baer aluminum hub Eradi-Speed rotors. Rear suspension is a Chassisworks Fab 9 housing with Moser aluminum center section and billet caps. 4.11 U.S. Gear ring and pinion, Strange 35 spline axles, and Baer 12" brake system with aluminum hub Eradi-Speed rotors.

Engine is an Arias aluminum block (540 cid). Eagle crank and rods (rated to 1500 HP) with ceramic barrier coated CP custom blower pistons for a compression ratio of 9.44:1. Fully ported Canfield aluminum heads, Comp billet solid roller camshaft with Crower severe duty roller lifters, titanium retainers, and Jesel shaft rockers complete the valve train. It uses a modified Victor Jr. manifold, 95# injectors, AccuFab monoblade throttle body and FAST EFI. The blower is a ProCharger D1SC with 15 psi of boost. Other engine items are a billet MSD distributor, Edelbrock Victor aluminum water pump, Vintage air conditioning, aluminum GMPP cast valve covers, chrome Tilton starter, custom aluminum oil pan from Dan Olson, Hooker ceramic coated super-comp headers, ATI balancer, and the list is endless. I'm using a Be Cool aluminum radiator with a Mark VIII electric fan controlled throught the computer.

It has a Tremec TKO transmission (5 speed with overdrive). I used a McLeod scattershield, dual-disc oval track clutch with aluminum pressure plate and flywheel, Tilton clutch master and hydraulic throwout bearing, and a Pro 5.0 billet shifter.

The car has a deluxe interior, factory dash and console gauges, Corbeau buckets (covered in matching comfortweave), fold-down rear seat, rear defroster, DSE 7 speed wipers with delay, Vintage A/C using stock controls, tinted windows, and AM/FM radio.

Please e-mail me with questions as there are too many mods to list everything here. The car runs under 190 degrees even at idle. I just took a 100 mile freeway (mostly) trip and averaged nearly 18 mpg. With strictly freeway driving I'm guessing you'd get 18-19 mpg. It runs on 91 octane pump gas. And it makes about 1100-1200 hp. See additional pics at http://www.camcojb.com"

Thanks Wallyknoch and Hank,

I probably should expand on what I'm trying to do. I'm taking a tunnel ram and adding a plenum to it like some of the aftermarket one's I have seen. I was thinking about drilling injector holes and using a standard manfold and adapting an old carb body as a throttle body but decided to have a little more fun. The plenum size I am looking for is the box the runners go into similar to the TPI setups for small blocks.

Here's a pic of Holley's superram for the SBC:

I just want to do something similar for the BBC. Kind of like the 502 Ramjet but with shorter runners going towards the center of the plenum instead of the sides.

six-t-six,
that does clarify things thanks
I don't have a FI to measure for you but, FYI, the book
"john lingenfelter on modifying small block chevy engines" has a chapter
on induction (ch 14) in which he disucusses in some detail the "super ram"
FI that he developed for the small block, and the plenum/runner design
impact on torque and hp curves.
the book is well worth the $18

Here is a Lingenfelter EFI intake I want to sell. If it works for you let me know.

Thanks for the book recommendation Gerry, I'll have to look for it. Looks like a good read

Doug2500, thanks but I already have a tunnel ram base.
