Default scat connecting rods

I am planning a rebuild on my 66 327/300hp and I want to use a better connecting rod. Scat seems to be the one of the only few that make an inexpensive connecting rod, for small journal cranks. Anyone had any opinions/experiance on how good thier rods are?

*I* have only heard good things about them. Of course they're not Olivers or Carillos, but that's not what you seem to want. Good luck, and...

I have had good luck with mine thus far. I am running 6.0" H-Beams with 7/16 cap screws. I'm sure they will be fine, rev limit is 6700.
Only time will tell, but "I" have heard good things as well.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the info. I don't want a rod to break and damage my numbers matching block.

don't worry, those SCAT rods are significantly stronger than the rods that came in your engine from the factory.

You don't need a better rod for a 5500 RPM engine. Even if your engine has the early small bearing rods without the little hump of metal adjacent to the bolt seats, they are satisfactory as is.

If you want to be safe, you could buy a set of new OE type rods, which are the latest design. For engines that will see sustained revs over 6000 or peak revs up to 8000 the Crower Sportsman are the way to go.

I'm using SCAT 5.7 H-beam rods and I'm mightily impressed. The dowelled cap, ARP rod capscrew, and the floating pistons.

For the price they are better than having a set of OEM rebuilt if you include the time and what not.

They are cool looking too!

My reasoning for going with Scat rods was economics. New rod bolts, magafluxing, and resizing the old rods wasn't much less than the Scat rods.

Engine is still on the engine stand so I can't comment on durability.
